That is strange, then. You mentioned it was a piece of technology with programs... Perhaps it was adjusted to fit with this world as there is no such tech?
...However my own communicator was left unaltered, same as other devices I've seen from others. And you mention the programs seem corrupted... I presume to mean they do not work.
