To: Everyone
Subject: Your experiences in other worlds that are not your own

[ Since her arrival, Zelda has learned two very important things. One, these journals are not private at all and should not be treated as traditional diaries. And, two, it sounds like a not insignificant number of residents in Songerein have experienced travel to other worlds before. It would be to her benefit to learn everything she can from them. ]

To the residents of Songerein,

I understand, from reliable sources,
[ Read: herself ] that many among our number have experienced this world reality matter of traveling to a different plane of existence before now.

If those of you who have done so would be so kind as to share any pertinent information with those who are new to this endeavor, it will be most appreciated.

[ What counts as "pertinent information?" Zelda doesn't exactly know herself. Hopefully everyone's advice will be more helpful than her request. ]

Cordially,
Zelda

I've had a few experiences being sent to Fractured Dimensions and then to a place called the Realm of Stories, so I might be able to help some. Course anyone else is free to chime in since the experience can vary.

As to what kind of info... Might need a few specifics. What are you most interested or concerned about?

I've been through it once before. Place was a shithole.
Not convinced this one is better yet, but judging by appearances alone, it's an improvement. Not sure I trust it.

What kind of things do you want to know?

As someone who has been to the Index in the Realm of Stories, I could offer some advice. Fair warning, though: My memory is not what it used to be.

What do you need to know about? Settling in? Adapting to new sorts of people and natural laws? Learning about things from other worlds?

I was in a world known as the Realm of Stories just like two of the people who have commented in here a while ago, so I do have some experience in being in and helping another world.

Is there something that you might be interested in learning?

I don't know anything about the manner in which we were taken, but a number of people from my world (which doesn't have any dimension or time travel) were brought by the Technicians to this place called the containnment zone. We were all from different points in time, people who were already dead in my time or still toddlers, but they arrived from decades in the future as adults.

But we couldn't figure out how the Technicians transported us. They had powers we couldn't even fathom. I went to sleep and woke up there, the same as this time.

There are tapirs in my waking world too, but we call them Yumekui, or "dream eaters." Dreamwalking is apparently more common where I come from than it is for most people, so I'll try to explain my understanding of how it works.

Dreams are often layered, and it's easy to get pulled into a deeper layer and get lost even if you're careful. It's also easy for time and space within dreams to get warped if people who don't know the dreamer enter. If possible, you should have someone on the outside who can pull you out if things get dangerous, and don't get separated if you're in a group.

I'm someone who has a bit of experience with this. This time, and the last time, definitely weren't my first.

Though I can definitely say that both of those times? Were a lot more unexpected.

In my experience, which I'll let you know is rather informed and[ uh...]experienceable, we'll be gone within weeks. This stuff happens all the time back home and it's always cause Diavolo got bored or somethin'. So don't worry about a thing.

[ There's a good reason for that, but that's not important right now. ]

Very well then.

When living in other worlds, it is important to note any discrepancies between the reality of this world and the world you're from. Magic may or may not exist, things that would not be possible at home may very well happen in your new surroundings, and you will meet sentient species that would not be so in your world. It's better to go along with the strangeness than to fight it, especially if you've found yourself with new powers or something along those lines.

There's also a good chance you will meet someone from yet another world who might tell you about new technologies that may be foreign to you, such as karaoke machines or smart-phones communications devices that fit in the palm of your hand and allow you to speak to another person remotely. I personally find this sort of thing interesting. Do you feel the same?

That is okay: I can help in explaining how my time in there was like. I was brought into the Realm through the efforts of the Story Teller.

They are the one who maintains the stories in the Realm and the one who gives us missions to restore the stories in need of repair from the damages made by the Story Eater and the Erasers.

Heh, fair enough, the experience itself can be pretty overwhelming.

Something I wish had been explained... Well for starters, not being able to pack your own change of clothes would have been a nice warning. Or in the last case, be warned that I'd be stuck in something I wouldn't like.

But for a more serious answer,
[Yes, he was just trying to lighten the mood a bit with that kind of opener.] knowing what you're supposed to do helps. In my previous experiences, I at least had some mission or goal so that helped give some focus instead of getting lost in what to do.

Even so, I just treat it like I'm visiting a new place, like a new city or country. Traveling to a different world sounds big, but the principle is the same. You'll want to:

1) Know your surroundings. Figure out what's safe, what's a threat, who you can trust and rely on. Good news is we have this whole town for us and places to claim to live in, so don't have to worry about that. But if you haven't already, try exploring the town and just outside of it. The more familiar you feel about a place, the less nervous you'll be.

2) Figure out resources. Since we're here for a while, knowing where you can find food, water, and other necessities will be key. Since there aren't really any stores this makes it a little more difficult, but I have some experience in "roughing it out," so I can probably help a bit with that. Fortunately there seems to be a lot of stuff just lying around free for the taking so it's not as bad as it could be.

3) Network. Meet the people and make connections. Not sure if speaking with the "locals" is even doable since I guess they would be the fairies and whatever and they live outside of town...so next step is just meeting everyone else who got dropped in here. We all already have that in common at least.

4) Have fun with it. Unless they're hiding something, it doesn't sound like we're really meant to do anything.
[...Okay, he can think of one thing that might need to be taken care of.] All right, something may or may not pop up that we'll need to take care of, but you're not alone. Since we have these cool new powers and whatnot, might as well make the most of it. You're no longer bound to whatever obligations you have back home, so you're free to do what you want. I've seen some people even take it as a second chance in life.

And hey, it's a dream world. No better place to let loose than in your dreams, right? ;)

I probably skipped a few other things, but that would be initial advice.

I previously spent some time in a world not so unlike this one. In a similar fashion, those who arrived there represented a variety of wildly different worlds and could manipulate magic around them by use of their emotions, both intentionally and unintentionally.

However, unlike this one, that world was not merely a dream.

Why should I? Most people are dishonest, any I'd expect anyone or anything that could pull off a trick like this to be the same.
Even if it turns out they aren't, doesn't hurt to be cautious. Rather be careful and wrong than stupid and dead.

[ He's not the smartest of his brothers, but he certainly tries to sound it!!! Reading "that isn't reassuring at all" leaves him frowning though. Whoever this Zelda person is,... was their home life not one they wanted to go back to?]

Diavolo? He's [ Wait, maybe he shouldn't be bringing up demons and the devildom with a stranger... ] One of those guys with time of their hand and magic. Ya know the type Im sure. Some people just get all ridiculous when they got all that power. Not necessarily bad, just all what can I do with this magic today sort of chaos.
