Subject: Sign Language and Medical/First Aid learning

Good afternoon everyone! My name is Shigeru Miyata and I've been wondering since I got here about a few things. I know there are a few of us here that can't speak...so we're mute, and for us communicating is harder than normal as you can imagine. The dreamotion does make it a bit easier but I know for myself that sign language is my preferred means of communicating.

I want to know if...people would be willing to take some classes and learn sign language from me? And I guess while I'm at it, I'd also like to extend the offer to teach people first aid and medical training. Since I'm not sure if there are any other doctors or medically trained personnel around. If there are please don't hesitate to come to talk to me! I was thinking of opening up a clinic of some kind in the future and would love to have people help out if at all possible.

There is a currently a communal clinic in place set up by my father, Yujin Mikotoba, and a Dr Jude Mathis. Dr Mathis has since left us, however, so my father is currently keeping things running by himself. If you'd like, I could introduce you! That said... I find basic first aid and medicine invaluable to know. [ aka wow she's interested.

She could go on, probably write a novel, but her hand naturally comes to a rest there. Reading it over again, she has so many questions, about how he uses body language and other methods of communication as a mute. She can only assume he relies on journals and writing, but then there's sign language. She's never had a reason to learn, but it can't be harder than English, surely...? ]

Oh!! So there is a clinic already? That's great! I would love to help out there if you don't think your father would mind?

My powers are mainly used for healing people so whatever I can do to help, I will! I would love to meet him, when he's available!

[ He's happy to know that there's a place already set up at least. ]

In this place it definitely is. Are you...looking to learn? You probably know a lot of the basics if your father is a doctor. [ Or maybe not?! ]

Quite the contrary, I think he would appreciate the help! Technically, he is a professor of forensic pathology, but he and Dr Mathis seemed the most qualified at the time to help others, so that is simply how things turned out. His methods are more traditional, whereas Dr Mathis focused more on magical healing from his home world, which he hoped to expand upon with dreamotion. Together they made quite the team.

[ ......She misses Jude, even if she didn't know him well. Mainly, it is out of regret that she never found out whether he received is flowers she sent as thanks, but that's not really relevant to Shigeru right now. ]

When you say powers... which type of healing are you more familiar with? Personally speaking, I am open to learning either, but I have no idea how capable I am for it. It really wasn't my field of study.

Then I'd be more than happy to help out! It's a lot for one person to really do, so I understand how he feels. But magical...that's what my focus is primarily on but I know traditional methods as well.

Phrobiest are not supposed to use their powers in excess but my magically healing complemented the traditional methods we were taught to use. [ So both, is what he's getting at. ]

I haven't tried dreamotion healing before, so we can learn together!

[ Both. There's a lot to take in, but either way, there's a bit of a smile before she responds. ]

Learning is always easier with friends.

But what's a phrobiest?

I've found that to be the case as well. I'm hoping we can be friends since it'll be easier to communicate with people now.

[ Shigeru doesn't have a lot of friends back home, so this is rather exciting for him. ]

Oh right! That's what...people like me are called back home. We have special powers linked to...phobias and we use them to protect people from monsters and things like that. [ Phrobiests also turn into monsters if they use their powers too much, but Shigeru will just leave that part out for now... ]

[ Well, she's hoping so, too. She certainly isn't going to say no, in any case. ]

So... um, you have powers based on what you fear? [ That doesn't seem very intuitive, but clearly he makes it work. ] What sort of fear results in healing?

[ Ah, yes, this topic. It's always a bit weird talking to people about his powers because back home he was ostracized and thought of as a monster because of them. Having to explain it to people who...aren't from his world is awkward, to say the least. ]

Well I...I'm a mysophobe. So a germaphobe and basically my powers are related to altering and manipulating subatomic particles. I can break things down or rebuild them from the ground up. So people like me with these kinds of powers are primarily given medical jobs back in my world.

[ The application of his powers is easy enough to think about. Rebuilding damaged organs, regrowing limbs, and things like that are pretty common for him back home. ]

[ So you're saying the world is Legos-- Susato seems rather fascinated, even if she has to read it over a couple times before she can get a grasp on it. ]

When you say 'from the ground up,' I imagine... um, construction. Architecture and the like. But to be in the medical field... Perhaps you are more familiar with the rebuilding of various limbs, or

[ Organs. Eyes, the heart. But she doesn't finish, dropping off rather suddenly. ]

Well our powers can be used for that. They work on inorganic and organic materials so...construction isn't entirely out of the question.

[ But, hm, it is kind of unnerving hearing it now that he thinks about it. ]

Yes! That's right. Things like that are...really common in my world. Rebuilding a limb isn't too hard but it does take a while to do, especially without the added help from other phrobiests of my kind. If there was two or three of us it would take a few hours. But since it's just me something like that would take a month or more to pull off.

[ A month. ...Well, she supposes she'd wait a month or more for a new leg, or arm or some such. She stares at her hand, feeling a tingling sensation as she thinks about it. She wonders what it feels like... ]

What a difference that makes... Does the fact that you cannot speak affect your powers?

Oh that? Not at all! Not being able to speak has nothing to do with my powers, thankfully. Though I wish I could heal myself with my own powers, my injury is something that can't be fixed with them.

[ It's unfortunate but he's learned to live with it just fine. ]

I assume you must write, just as you are now. Quite a lot. But failing that... Would you be willing to meet to teach me sign language as well?

Mm that's right. I've been this way since I was young, so I've learned to live with it. It's not as bad or hard as it might seem.

But yes of course! I was thinking of holding lessons for people, actually. Like a class of sorts, since there seems to be quite a few people who wanted to learn. But if you would rather study in private we can do that!

[ Oh. Oh no. Shigeru and love is a tragedy in and of itself, ahgiaheu! He might bluescreen for a moment before he comes to his sense. Yes, okay, love...hm. ]

Oh, well, there are a lot of different signs for it. It just depends on how you want to say and express it.

[ ...Hmm. Sadly any nuance in Shigeru's reaction is lost in text; otherwise Susato might have caught onto it. She does get some that she should back off, though?

Of course! I'd love to! The sign for it is pretty simple so it won't be too hard to learn. If you want me to teach it in private I can definitely do that since, well, I guess it can be a little embarrassing?

[ Love is a natural thing, and it shouldn't be embarrassing. Keyword: shouldn't. She does end up getting flustered over the littlest things, but maybe it helps, having that distance over the journal. ]
