Subject: Healing Magic
Good evening. I write to ask if there are any amongst us dreamwalkers who may be able and willing to teach the healing arts.
The ability to mend wounds and cleanse poisons is a valuable skill that can help us prepare for unexpected events. Owing to the varied forms of dreamwalkers, I believe that magic would be more effective, as well as more accessible, whether drawing from magical aptitude or from our own dreamotion energies.
Please let me know if you are interested in teaching. I can offer some compensation for your time. I also encourage fellow prospective students to write in, I shall keep you apprised of any developments.
Thank you for your perusal, and I wish all a pleasant sunset.

[Even if the suggestion for food and drinks weren't something Beat would usually go for, he liked Phantom, thinking that they made a pretty good team back on the cliffside.]
yeah im down
aint got much else going on
my places a block from the well
[Insert actual directions here.]

[ True to his word, he would appear outside Beat's door fifteen minutes later, dressed in his usual dark yet formal ensemble. This time, he's brought Miss Christine with him, the lady perched on his shoulder with a red bow wrapped around her tail. He'll knock on the door politely and wait. ]

He's also quick to notice that Phantom isn't alone in this visit, stepping aside to let them in.]
You know, I ain't surprised that you got a cat for a pet, Kitty Boy.
[He hadn't called Phantom that to his face before today. He already called Shoka Kitty Girl back home, that he figured this could would for Phantom while he was here.]

Phantom blinks, visibly surprised for a moment before his usual countenance returns. Well, Beat nicknames people, and he supposes it can't be helped. ]
This is Miss Christine. She is my companion both here and in the waking world.
[ He brought a basket with the tea and biscuits. Miss Christine leaps off his shoulder, looking for a table where she can curl up. ]
no subject
Sorry for the mess. Ain't 'sactly been in much of a mood to clean up.
[A bit of an excuse. He was generally messy, even on regular days. Thankfully the couch had been relatively tidy, sans a discarded shirt or two as Beat takes a seat, making a quick gesture to the other chair for Phantom to follow suit.]
How's the search for them lessons going?
no subject
[ Phantom has seen worse, and he's not about to judge Beat for not having a handle on his living space after everything that had happened. The youth would need some time to get his thoughts in order. Is there a table for him to put down the food and drink, though? ]
I have found a few volunteers, though it remains to be seen if their magic is sufficiently compatible with this world to allow others to learn it.
[ Different types of magic source their power from different things. It's a lot more complicated than he originally envisioned it to be. ]
no subject
...He'll deal with that later.]
Right, it's the learning part that's tricky, ain't it? Back where I'm from, we had pins that helped with healin'. Ain't got none a' that on me though, otherwise I woulda helped a brotha out.
[There was more to it than just having the pin, but Beat had gotten so used to being able to wield them, it was practically second nature to him.]
no subject
Are you still able to use your pin magic in this world?
[ This he says after uncorking his bottle of tea. That would determine if the pins were vital or merely provided guidance. ]
no subject
[After a moment of rifling through his pockets, he takes out a red pin with a red boar emblazoned on it. He holds up between his fingers for Phantom to see.]
Would give ya a demo but this place ain't big enough for what this thing can do. Even used it back in the cave a couple of weeks ago before I changed gears to use dreamotion for Wolfie.
[It had been during the initial fight. Beat had used the pin to engulf himself in a ball of fire before he ran towards Eustace, tackling him as a human fireball of sorts. But with all the chaos going on, it would have been more of a surprise if Phantom remembered that.]
no subject
I presume it is not possible to replicate its effects or make another copy... implements such as these are far more difficult to reproduce. Thus I sought to use dreamotion as a basis, a resource which is available to all regardless of origin or birth.
[ Hopefully Beat can understand what he's saying... ]
no subject
[He takes one of the biscuits that had been laid out, talking with his mouth full.]
Can ya really do that with dreamotion. Heal people with it?
[It seems Beat CAN understand what Phantom was getting at. But he might be harder to understand, what with the food muffling him as he spoke. He pauses after a bite though.]
Yo, this shit's fire.
[Yes, he's talking about the food.]
no subject
Some individuals can. They already had training in the healing arts from home. I wish to devise a sort of framework that would not require prior knowledge.
[ It takes Phantom a few moments to realize Beat is talking about the food. His expression softens, but only a little. ]
You do like it? I am glad.
no subject
[As soon as he finishes saying that, he stuffs another one into his mouth.]
An' hows the search lookin'. Found anyone who can help ya with that?
no subject
... I did. My first works were not so... presentable. I am heartened to hear that my work has improved.
[ He's not one to do such things like cook or bake. But he supposes it's a mark of how he has changed since he came here. ]
I have met a few who are willing to teach. Perhaps if we amalgamate their methods, we could develop a brand new discipline of healing arts.
no subject
[Because Beat will never say no to free food, even if that means being a guinea pig for some of them. Just going to reach for another as they continue talking.]
That just means throwin' all a' them together, right?
[What the hell is amalgamate? Try as he might to understand Phantom, there are times that he's at a complete loss.]
no subject
Yes, to combine them. There are certain similarities between the magic systems of different worlds. I believe these similarities are the more universal rules. We need a system that can be used by anyone, regardless of birth or origin.
[ Originium Arts were kind of like that for Terrans. All of the ancient races could use it, though there were naturally variations between people as well. However, this world seems a lot less restrictive, which is why Phantom believes that this plan of his might have a real chance of succeeding. ]
no subject
Izzit really that easy though? With it all bein' different from one another.
[He doesn't mean to sound doubtful, but the thought crosses his mind anyway.]
Like skatin' and surfin', you know? Some people prob'ly think the two a' 'ems kinda similar but if you're good with one, that don't mean you gonna be good at the other.
no subject
It is certainly easier said than done. A system like that does not exist at the present time. Thus I endeavour to find one that would be compatible with everyone; a new method that would be without prejudice or restrictions.
[ No luck so far, but he's not out of options yet. There's always more avenues to explore: he's not learned in the magical arts by any means, so there's even more knowledge he has to catch up on. ]
no subject
[Then he pauses and his expression changes as his eyes widen and a grin begins to form on his face. It's almost comical how easy it is to see when the idea strikes him.]
Yo! You know what, the next time I get one a' the regain boobies, I'mma get one a' the healin' pins from back home!
no subject
Ah, I see. Thank you. Every little bit counts.
[ It takes him a moment to realize what Beat was referring to. Good thing it wasn't actually what he thought it was. ]
no subject
No sweat, yo. I'mma hit you up when I got it. Maybe it can help ya somehow.
[It might not be something he is really good at but he's eager to help, no matter how little. In fact, he would never have thought of it if Phantom never brought up the topic, after all.]
An' even if it don't, leas' I got some kinda backup if we need it, you know?
no subject
Yes, of course.
[ He takes another sip of his tea. Now that he's told Beat about his plans, they could talk more about it, but they'll probably end up talking about music instead. That's something that ties them together despite being from wildly different worlds. ]
