As most of you are probably not aware, today is the birthday of Mammon, the Great and Amazing Avatar of Greed. He's feeling particularly shy today, and so he's asked me to make an announcement on his behalf.

If you need a favor done for you, let me know and I'll document it and send it to the Birthday Boy. He's willing to complete any task for you, no matter how great or small. Manual, back-breaking labor is perfectly okay for him, so please don't hold back. He'll pull the weeds in your garden; test dangerous, harmful substances for you; and will even commit to telling a joke that makes you laugh.

Truly, we should all be grateful to the Avatar of Greed who has chosen to be so delightfully generous on this day which marks the day of his creation.

I'm serious. Don't hold back. There's no job too demanding, too difficult, or too disgusting for him. He'll be sure to give it his all.

[ Oh, Mammon's probably full of it... just not about his age. ]

Ah, I see. I hope my brother hasn't been too much trouble for you. He can be a lot to handle, sometimes.

As for birthday traditions, we demons don't really have a tradition we follow every year. I can't speak to it as much, given that Mammon is thousands of years older than I am, but every so often we like to change up the regular birthday celebrations.

So, we may have a few decades of what a human might consider a normal birthday celebration. Then that might be followed by a few decades in which we do things like this, where we might give gifts or offer our services on our birthday.

If we didn't change it up every now and then, we'd get so bored of our birthdays that we'd stop celebrating them all together.

So! That being said, I'm sure there's something he can do for you. Even if it's something as simple as spending time with you, or taking you out to dinner. I know Mammon would be saddened if there wasn't a single thing he could do for you.

I didn’t know you guys were brothers.

[He knew Mammon had siblings, but it dawns on him at this very moment that he never exactly asked for much information except whether they were older or younger. Although now that seems to be remarkably moot.]

So this whole offering out his services is sort of your world’s traditions then. Think he likes fishing or anything? He’s welcome to go fishing with me. Or I guess plant… flowers or something. I don’t usually ask him along for things like this because he never struck me as the sort to be interested.

[...But there was the time he and Mammon were picking up seashells on the beach…]

[ In all fairness, Satan really screws with the birth order of their family. He's both the middle child and, technically, the youngest. ]

Mammon's interested in a lot of mundane things. Or rather, he's actually not interested, but he can still get really excited about them anyway because someone he cares about likes them.

[ Wait. This wasn't the point of why he made this announcement!! Sure, maybe Mammon would be embarrassed if Nier knew that about him, but-- ]

He's not honest with his feelings, but if you ask him in earnest to spend time with you, he'll do it. He might roll his eyes and make it seem like a hassle, but trust me, he's jumping for joy on the inside. It's more about who he's with than what the activity is.

[ Ughhh. Nier was too wholesome for him. He just couldn't.... ]

[To him, that sounds just like something a friend would want to do. Be supportive. Kainé does the same thing with him, after all. He can't say if he's done it himself, though perhaps he has for Yonah's sake. That's a little different, though. Parental duties versus being a friend... They aren't really the same thing. And 'duty' might not be the word for it either.

Either way, to him it just sounds like Mammon is a really good friend.]

I wouldn't have taken him for being so sentimental. Whenever we're together, he's been pretty intent on cracking jokes. But I get it, because I guess I'm kind of the same way.

[...Except no. Nier's far more open about his sentimentality. So much so that he's been ripped on for it. And probably rightfully so. At least his heart's in the right place.]
