one ❤️ text (forwarded dated to the first part of the event)

( Frisk is someone of very few words. To them, it's far easier to listen, than it is to talk - but when they do talk, they don't have much to say. At the least, text is easiest for them when it comes to communicating. )

There are some small monsters that appeared that might hurt others.

Don't hurt them. There are other ways to ask them to stop.

Other ways, like traps?

I didn't say the pitfalls had to be dangerous. It would trap them in one space and it'd be fun to build.

Fine. Since you're not keen on entrapment? what would you suggest?

I don't know what kinda world you come from kid, but flirtin' with monsters is just begging for you to get bit.

They've dealt with these creatures considerably longer than you. They're not like whatever monsters you're familiar with, their capacity for actual cruelty is massively dwarfed by humanity.

They're simply very stupid.

I see... so their "monsters" are less beast and more ... conscious of their feelings.

They're closer to people. These ones in particular, the smaller ones, are on the lower scale of intelligence to be found there, but most of them are fully sapient.

A froggit, one of the creatures in question, is a bit closer to a toddler in intelligence. I assume you wouldn't kill a toddler just because it was doing something potentially dangerous.

But while Frisk is well intentioned, they have also never dealt with having to talk down monsters without my aid, so if you have enough control over your strength you can also simply attack them until they admit defeat and run.

Not intentionally no, but I can't really say what my curse would do to a toddler froggit either. And I'm not about to let one kick my ass if it comes down to it. Though if these creatures tend to run in the face of strength, that might make them easier to handle.

That's a good point! Thank you for bringing attention to that.

Do you happen to have some experience with talking monsters out of attacking people? I'm afraid I've never done that before...

Complements and jokes... Noted! I never knew monsters could be interacted with that way. I will keep that in mind!

I suppose this means we just need to talk to them and find out what works with each one, correct?

[ This is the first Zelda has ever heard someone recommend not killing monsters. Consider her curiosity piqued. ]

I'm willing to try. Do you have any suggestions?

[ It's the mark of a good scientist to question everything, but Zelda has never questioned why it's the norm to indiscriminately kill monsters. It's always been a fact of life, as far as she knows (although monster attacks exponentially increased during her lifetime). Could there be a better way? ]

Why do they attack people in the first place?
multidisciplinary: (056)

[personal profile] multidisciplinary 2021-11-12 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ So violence between people and monsters is cyclical, at least in Frisk's world. Is it the same in Hyrule, where the violence has been going on for so long that no one remembers who drew the first blood? Or could it be that Calamity Ganon's Malice has driven Hyrule's formerly-peaceable monsters to violence? ]

Were you injured by the monsters here?

[ She's relieved to read that, at least. But it still leaves Zelda wondering how Frisk knows so much about monsters. ]

Yes, there are. There weren't many when I was a little girl, but their populations have increased dramatically over the years.

[ He considers that for a moment. Being nice, while ideal, didn't always guarantee cooperation. But something about the words spoke of experience, despite the text making it difficult to be sure. ]

Are you familiar or acquainted with these monsters?

If you're more confident with your combat ability, you can just hold back enough to force them to surrender.

Frisk isn't being naive, but in complete fairness, none of you have me to guide you while fighting them. They're normally simply unaware of how dangerous their magic is for humans.
