Subject: A Method to Stay in This World

As everyone should know, the version of ourselves in this world is wholly separate from our originals that remain awake in our home worlds. What we do here has no effect there, and vice versa. Most won't care whether they are here for a temporary stay, however there are those like me and Tifa who have formed relationships that would be impossible if not for this world.

And I am determined to make it last.

When the Halloween Carnival arrived last October, we had the opportunity to speak to the tapirs and inquire about the nature of our existence here. In short, we are tethered to our home world which allows us to return, currently at random. However, the fae, creatures, and every other being that is not a dreamer like ourselves do not have such tethers. They either traversed into this world or were directly taken through other means.

This leads to the conclusion that if we want to stay in this world, we need to somehow break the connection, either by completely severing it or changing the tether to connect to this world instead. Perhaps we need to completely change the nature of our current "dream self." As the risk of being sent back is high if the tether is cut, I aim to focus on other means.

However, there is of course no known knowledge or means to do this, and the tapirs do not know, either. Thus I am sending this inquiry to:

1) ask if there are any others who would be interested either to help or in the results;

2) if there is anyone who is familiar with dimensional travel or strong magic that could give some clue as to what to look for.

Currently I am looking through the Tree of Stories to find any text or story that could be of use. My current suspicion is dreamotion will be the main component, however manipulating it for such a use will be difficult.

My memories from Geardagas didn't stick when I went back home, either... I only got them back after being here a while.

[Hmmmm. He's thinking.]

It makes me wonder if forgetting might just be part of the mismatch in time and space, or something. Like it's a forced reset.

It could be. I will say this—when I had briefly returned to my world, I do remember having vague, strange dreams that made no sense to me there. Nothing concrete, like a common abstract dream. But when I returned here, I realized they were related to this world.

So it might not be completely impossible to remember, even if it might not make sense to ourselves in our world.

[Ferran hesitates to hope, especially since not understanding the memories is almost as bad as not having them, but.]

I guess that makes as much sense as it can. Dreams already feel like time doesn't work the same, even without whatever we've got going on here, so maybe there's less of an obstacle. I feel like I have less experience with restoring memories than the other aspect, though.

[He sighs to himself, wondering what the solution there could possibly be. The transportation aspect feels more solvable than the mental part.]

I don't know much about dimensional travel, but the way were connected to our home worlds in Geardagas was mirrors, individual to each of us. We couldn't use them at will until the magic-eating disease there was wiped out.

How did the mirrors work?

Physically speaking, we fell through them after seeing something reflective back home. I don't know that anybody actually knew how, though, which is in line with how much of the rest of that world was.

[The lack of answers was eternally frustrating.]

They were all in a giant enchanted hall which was part of the Coven, the base of magic study. Apparently they'd been there longer than anyone could remember. When one of us went back home, that person's would break, but that didn't mean they couldn't come back. Sometimes people would be drawn to theirs just to look, and they'd come away with new memories.

Still, perhaps creating some kind of gateway would make things easier at least for those who wish to leave and return. We'd still have the problem of securing ourselves here, but if we can figure out how the dreamotion connection works on an object, we may be able to apply it to ourselves.

Having a physical gate of some kind might help to channel the idea, yeah. I would think it would be easier to focus on moving from place to place when you have something representative of that in front of you.

[Metaphors are easier to consider when they're less intangible. Surely magic wrought from willpower is influenced by that too?]

As far as connections, we have all those wishing things, right? Have you thought of looking into the items people have gotten from them?

I've also considered it. From what I've read, they use our dreamotion energy to forge a connection to our world, so it must be related. However, I'm not sure if the items maintain that connection or if they change upon entering the world—which would be important to look into. The biggest question will be as always, "how," but there must be a way to detect it. I'm thinking of going to the Observatory to see if they have anything that might work.

[If they change upon entering the world...? Ferran takes a minute to ponder this, wondering if that's true—if they become wholly separate from their originals. He guesses if they're just normal things, maybe—as is the case with what he creates with his own replication magic—but...]

Right. I guess if we're going to get any progress, we need an actual way to get information. Hopefully they have something.

What about items that are connected to us in a more definite way, as well as to home? Do you think something like that would be helpful to look into?

Like a magical artifact tied to one person specifically, made for them. It influences them, and they influence it, physically and in a deeper way. An artifact made by [what was it?] a spirit from a particular world, and presumably draws its power from that.

...Sort of like a golem or puppet? Or smaller like an accessory?

The latter, but it's a weapon, basically.

I can see that. Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to look into it if to at least see if we can learn about how the bonds are formed. Do you have an idea of how to acquire or create such a thing?

[........... okay, just commit, if you're going to talk about it at all.]

I have one. I can get more, but they're not specifically connected to me.

Then it's just a matter of figuring out how to research the bond. The Observatory might have some potential equipment.

[It's less of it being sensitive and more of him being cautious of the consequences and what people might learn about him in particular but. Important science is afoot!]
