The dreaded Valentine's Day, where you either get lucky... or get rejected. Sometimes you get chocolate though, even if it's just obligation.

[ Hmm, that's still not ringing any bells. Zelda tries to think back to what was happening this time last year. That was when they got sucked into a silly love story by that horrid bard, William Shakespeare. She doesn't remember there being a 'Valentine' involved. ]

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that holiday. It involves some kind of lottery? That sounds quite frustrating.

[ Actually, she just doesn't get it, but she's trying to be sympathetic, since it's clearly bothering this person. ]

Ah... not a lottery, but it's pretty embarrassing if you confess to someone you like them and they reject you and your gift of candy or chocolate. Where I'm from, on Valentines, girls give boys chocolates. They can be an obligation, like for friends or family... or it can be more than that. The 'I like you' kind.

[That's usually followed up by the confession... and then the 50/50 chance they reject you or say they like you too... the worst time.]

I can handle rejection, that's not a big deal, but just thinking about saying I THINK I LIKE YOU to someone is... terrifying.

They both sound absolutely mortifying to me! Even if I could ever work up the courage to tell someone that I liked them like that, I would be terrified of rejection.

I don't think it'd bother me too much if I was... but the lead up to that feels terrible. I'm not sure if I can bring myself to do it if I really do like someone more than just a friend.

[Because goodness, she's already bad enough with people face to face until she knows them, having to add in more things into that mix would be even worse.]

I don't think I could do it either. If they don't reciprocate your feelings, not only do you suffer rejection, but you also risk permanently damaging your friendship. What if they become uncomfortable being your friend now that they know you feel something more for them? What if they look down on you for your feelings?

[ Zelda's a 'glass half empty' kind of girl, always worrying about the worst possible outcome to a situation. ]

I... hadn't thought of that. I don't think they would, but... man, that makes me nervous now. Should I just keep it bottled up if I figure it out that yeah, I like them?! I don't want to not be their friend, too...

Well, if the two of you are already close friends, then that probably won't happen. Statistically speaking, the odds of a friend's feelings becoming more negative after a confession is probably 10:1 20:1.
