Optional Action/Log: The Wishing Well

[ Encounter one (1) local phantom named Somnus standing near the Wishing Well within the town, peering over its worn edge. As many might already know, one may cast a bauble into the well and receive something in return. Perhaps he's here to do just that? Or, perhaps, he's here to observe. The well is rather mysterious in nature, after all. Where else does someone drop a plain round sphere, imbued with a wish, and receive a facsimile of an item from one's homeworld in return?

Regardless of his actual intentions, his expression appears as grim as ever. Fitting, for a dead person. ]

[ Somewhere at the border of the town and the wildlands, catch him practicing tossing javelins. It seems he may be doing it as some form of exercise. That, or a distraction. ]

Have you noticed that upon this network, it appears more nightmares are preserved rather than dreams?

I have.

But I'm not sure what to do about it.

As of yet, it appears there is nothing that can be done.

But it also seems there is a lack of investigating a way.

Yes. It's rather frustrating.

I used to fight Nightmares before I came here. But it doesn't seem like things are the same with Nightmares here so I have not been able to do quite the same thing as before.

The creatures borne of nightmare energy here can be fended off with dreamotion power, that of a positive source. This much is known. Did you have a similar opposing force to nightmares in your world?

To be honest...

Most of us usually beat them up with whatever weapons we could get our hands on until they die.

[When she says that she has fought nightmares, she does in fact mean that literally, sir.]

What were the origin of these nightmares?

[ibarahime]

I'm not sure, but: they were monsters that had to be destroyed if we wanted to survive, and keep them from infesting other worlds.

Or so I was told.

How were they able to travel to other worlds?

[ibarahime]

I'm not sure.

I don't really think too hard about these things. I just fight them.

... The puppets would probably know the answer better than I do.

[ At this point, Somnus shuts his journal. More than an hour later, he responds. ]

Do you wish to prevent them from appearing here?

[ibarahime]

[There's no hard feelings to be had about the delayed response: in fact, it takes her a moment before she responds back not because Beauty had been mad he took this long to respond, but because she had begun snoozing again until now.]

[Fighting Nightmares cuts into her precious time that could be spent on pleasant dreams, after all.]
