Continuing the theme of simple questions, my dear friends! But this one is for *research*. You'll see.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
And if ice cream isn't your thing - what is your favorite soda flavor? ^_^

That sounds a bit like you're the eldest, then, of a very large brood. Do I guess correctly? I am an only child myself so that *is* a guess. But as a diplomat, I can understand that our art is difficult to truly convey to the uninterested :D

The oldest of seven brothers, and a horde of cousins besides, I'm told it shows rather obviously. Most of my people are the only child of their parents, my grandfathers line... showed more prolific than most of our kin. Truer words have never been spoken, and my brothers are too quarrelsome to be even remotely interested in the topic. More interested in starting fights than to resolve them without someones nose being broken.

It's much more agreeable to try and talk things out so no one (me) gets hurt, wouldn't you agree?

It is, especially when you need more allies than enemies.

I can't very well imagine a sane person thinking enemies give them an advantage.

I never claimed they were sane now, did I? Though mostly it was a matter of overinflated pride and a careless attitude... they never truly thought things through before acting most of them.

Still, it's an interesting contrast - I know a few hot-headed scholars, but they tend not to be the norm. Or is that my own experiences giving me that bias? Knowing nerds who overthink things?

Too much fire in our souls, I'm afraid, for it not to affect our tempers. It's completely my fathers fault, just so you know, my mother was an infinitely sensible and reasonable person. She wasn't called Nerdanel the wise for nothing.
