Two months ago, my cousin Naoya decided to announce to the world at large that it was my birthday. Today I get to return the favour.

Please send him your best birthday regards. He's older than dirt and will need them before inevitably expires due to being a literal fossil.

I know you saw this coming, Naoya.

Something like that! She was planted over two hundred years ago. My oldest brother was only born around 34 years ago, however, so we're hardly old in comparison.

I see. Yes, that would definitely be enough time for plenty of siblings to grow. Though you said you grew from the boughs... more like fruit or more like seeds?

Well, it was only the twelve Firstborn for the first two years...then the secondborn, and then so on and so on. It happens a bit more sporadically now.

Pods, actually! We grow in them, and then emerge fully-formed.
Well.
Sometimes we 'drop' rather than 'emerge', but we're usually fine!

'Usually'.

But who am I to question your methods? I've seen enough strangeness in my time to not really have a threshold for 'weird' anymore.

Accidents happen, sometimes. I guess it's the same for newborns of other races too, though.

Suppose we'd be in the same boat then. After the decade of endless catastrophes we've had, you kind of get used to stuff that's 'out of the ordinary'.

It's true, accidents do happen.

Oh? Your world has been having a lot of danger? Mine has wars off and on, though the week before I arrived here was rough for other reasons.

I'd say it depends on the place now, but up until recently, we had a dragon problem. Several of them, actually. Considering they've been around for thousands of years, having them all gone in over the course of 10 years still feels pretty odd.

... I'm struggling to think of what could cause dragons to go extinct, though I mostly know folklore depictions of them.

[And demons, but those are the folklore versions. So still technically correct. The best kind of correct.]

[ oh that's not- ]

Ah, well

I suppose the best way to put it would be that we're the ones who got rid of them.

[ Lmao? ]

Not that it was a particularly easy feat, in any sense.

Ah, I assumed so... it's just simply strange to think of them being able to be eradicated. I can imagine it was incredibly difficult.

Short of banishing them all or something similar, I suppose. Though even then the amount of energy needed would be substantial, depending on how many dragons you had.
