Hello everyone! My name is Iris Wilson, and I thought it'd be quickest to introduce myself over these interesting journals. Wouldn't it be faster if we could use typewriters instead of pens, though? Has anyone tested that?
Anyway, I trust you're familiar with Mr Naruhodo? Or Miss Mikotoba and Inspector Lestrade? They are some of my dearest friends and family, so I wanted to thank you all for being here to support them! Oh, and Mr Asogi and Mr Reaper, too!
In addition, I understand that Herlock Sholmes was here prior to me? Honestly, he's normally so difficult to wake, too. But I also wanted to say that I hope you had a lovely time with him and that,
[There's the briefest pause.]
well, I apologise if there was any trouble.
I believe that's all I have to say for now. We really must have tea sometime! I'll be staying with Runo if you'd like to find me.

I think a typewriter to make is not a problem, but the problem you have then is getting it to work in conjunction with the journal, which is why it hasn't been done. Considering how our messages are transmitted and that's probably some type of magic, you'd have to know how it works exactly to make a typewriter that does exactly what you want.
Unfortunately I only know the mechanical part, the magic is a bit beyond me.

I'd love to hear any tips you have for constructing one or if you know where the parts might be available!

You could do something akin to a printing press, but you run into the problem that it takes a long time, compared to just writing in it.
no subject
Has anyone pulled one of these apart?
[She seems to stop there. Not troubling at all, nope.]
no subject
With the magic I haven't attempted it.
no subject
[There's a long pause.]
Well? Was there anything else?
no subject
How inconvenient that would be.
no subject
[There's a pause.]
Except it looks like the pages just come back together after some time! This is really interesting!
no subject
How peculiar.
no subject
That suggests it must be intact to function properly, yet it can't be rendered totally inoperable either.
no subject
I wonder if you could still see my words.
If so, pray an experiment, could you destroy the page and see if tearing it would change that?
no subject
[Cue the hold Muzak.]
Your message stayed for a moment, but before I could finish tearing it up the words vanished, almost as though they were written in disappearing ink. I'd have to find the right chemicals to test if it is, but I suspect the page will return to the book before I ca
Yes, there it is. It still appears to be blank once more.
no subject
I am definitely intrigued.
I'll have to see if I can run a few experiments of my own at the earliest opportunity when Gen is not looking.
no subject
Who's that? And why wouldn't you want them to know about this?
no subject
Gen is my partner. He has made me promise that I am on vacation.
no subject
That's nice. Hurley's said that we're always observing and learning, though, so I don't see why you couldn't do a test or two on vacation.

It's an interesting world. It experienced an apocalypse and the fall of complete civilization but we've rebuilt it back up to a decent standard of living for the most part.
no subject
Really? It's not quite the same, but after war and plague, the people from my world spent hundreds of years in decline, but in the last few centuries we've been taking great strides forward. I think I can understand your world thinking about it like that. I'm very glad you've managed to survive!
no subject
I'm glad to hear your world has been coming along. I don't think it's quantifiably possible to compare people's worlds in any event. They're all different.
no subject
Ah, good point. I've never really had other ones to consider along with my own before now.
no subject
True. This is my first time encountering other worlds, so to speak. I've met an alien entity, but I don't know much about where they came from. They didn't seem to know.
no subject
Oh, wow! I guess it might be hard to explain your own world when you've never had to think of it in comparison to another.
no subject
The aliens were parasites, so they had conquered many planets already and didn't understand how they kept ruining them. Fascinating blind spot for an AI.
no subject
That's quite interesting. Parasites don't tend to be very clever, do they? What does "AI" stand for?
no subject
No, definitely not clever. They were fulfilling their function, but beyond that...well. I'm undecided. They're smarter than they seem I think, but a huge blind spot.
Ah, sorry. Artificial intelligence. It's like machines that can learn and evolve on their own.
