second entry ⊗ quest #1205 corgi help
Sender: Eustace

Subject: Requesting Personal Stories About Adventures and/or Travels and Other Items in Relation to Dream Board Post #1205
I am in need of numerous stories about any kind of adventure, journey, or travel you may have embarked on be it in this world or your own.
If you've seen my posting on the board, this post is to provide fuller details about the situation. Last month I had been...trapped in a large tree located on the eastern forests, and within this tree are seven dogs which look like corgis. [Have an imprinted image of what the adorable fluffballs look like:]

It all appears to have been pulled in from another world and has remnants of its original magic in place. This magic is a protection spell and prevents the dogs and anything within the tree to leave. Should the dogs somehow manage to leave without it... They will likely die.
Even if it's for their protection, the dogs need and want to go outside. Furthermore, Should something happen to the tree they wouldn't be able to escape. Fortunately, a way to break the original enchantment and cast a new one to protect them as they live in this world has been found. It's simple and requires the following:
None of these are specific so it's whatever can be found, though the better quality, the better chance of succeeding. However, because of the number of dogs, a large amount of each will be needed to ensure they are properly protected. It would be better if there was a better solution, but this will have to do for now.
As for the adventure stories, as mentioned I need a large amount so I would like to ask any willing to share any personal stories they had. There are no specifics, but I get the sense the story should have some spirit of exploration and discovery, which would fit the purpose of the spell. These stories will be transcribed in a journal used for the spell.
Finally, I am looking to create a headstone. The tree and the dogs had a guardian before, however he perished upon leaving the tree. The remains have been buried, but a headstone would be appropriate as well.
If you have any questions, feel free contact me. You can drop off the ingredients at the Fairy Doghouse located within the Residential District. There will be a designated bin for the items. [He draws a brief map with directions. The dogs he refers to are the flower fairy dogs that were brought in a while back.]
Thank you.
— Eustace

[ She wouldn't have been surprised or held it against them if they got distracted by literally anything else through all of that, but she's glad they listened all the way through!
At his question, Ori looks a little bashful. ]
Oh... that's right. I didn't really do anything, though!
[ (Narrator voice: She did.) ]
I just helped them find where the stone was, is all.
no subject
Eustace and the corgis exchange glances before they all just stare at her, clearly not believing and look as if pressuring her to elaborate.]
no subject
...What?
I just cast a spell that helps locate specific objects, is all... My friends did most of the monster-vanquishing and stuff like that!
[ She's a healer, okay. ]
no subject
A spell to locate objects? Wouldn't that be considered a vital part in trying to find the gemstone?
no subject
Oh... well, all it really did was speed up the process. I think we would have found it regardless.
[ Ori might be giving her friends too much credit when it comes to exploration, specifically. ]
Though I guess we could have been searching all over the forest and not in the caves where it was, without it...
no subject
Take more pride in your accomplishments. I'm sure should I have heard this story from a different member of your group, they would have emphasizes your role more. It won't take anything away from the main protagonist of your story—if anything it would help give more support to him.
no subject
[ It does take Oriphi a moment to let all of what Eustace has just said process. She does make a habit out of minimizing her— well, everything. His words don't feel unfamiliar, having heard something along the same lines from her own friends time and time again.
Old habits die hard. Ori's learned over time, at least, to accept that she does this rather than continue to insist that she really had nothing to do with anything at all as she might have in the past. ]
That... You're right. I'll try to do that! Maybe if these little ones want to hear about a story about me next time, I can practice that.
[ She gives him a small smile. ]
Thanks, though. You actually sound a lot like my friends when you say things like that.
no subject
I think they're interested in a story now, however they can wait.
What were your friends like?
no subject
They're really strong and competent and really interesting! Everyone has their own things that they're really good at. Like Cibark, the guy who the story was about - he's suuuper tall and strong, but he's also really nice.
We have a few elves in the group, but they're all very different. Dae is a really talented wizard and knows a ton about magic, and Aerie is a ranger, and she's so smart and pretty, and Mellon is really funny and can move his body really fast especially when he's punching and kicking things!
Then there's Sian - they're also really good at magic, but they're also really good at gathering information and that kind of thing, and then there's my friend Colin. He's a bard, and he's really good at telling stories. I bet he would have told Cibark's story even better, and with music. He's really charming.
[ Is she blushing a little bit when she talks about the bard? Maybe! But look, don't get Ori started about her friends. She loves them so much that she could go on forever about them. ]
no subject
They all see that blush.
But fortunately for her Eustace isn't one to tease, he just finds it a little amusing.]
Quite a group you have.
[Like he's one to talk, his own group is rather chaotic in their own way.]
What brought you all together?
no subject
Ah, those gemstones... We were brought together to try and find all of them.
[ There's obviously more to it than that, but... ]
What about you? Have you told our fuzzy friends a story of your own, yet?
no subject
Annnd then she turns the question on him. Should have expected something like that, really.]
Not yet. I haven't really decided what to tell.
no subject
Aww, come on... I'm sure the corgis would love to hear any story you'd want to give them. Right, everyone?
[ She looks around at all the doggos, and then back up at him. Story time!! ]
no subject
...Most of them are highly classified missions that I wouldn't be able to talk about, anyway...
[WELL NOT THAT IT WOULD MATTER TO THE DOGS but with Oriphi... Well technically does that really matter here??? This is totally not him trying to get out of it (it is).]
no subject
[ See this, Eustace? This is the look of utter disappointment. And since the corgis are definitely on her side, they seem similarly let-down. ]
Are you worried that the dogs will tell the other dogs about your highly classified missions?
no subject
No, it's just the principle of the matter... None of them are [Small pause as he has to think of the proper word for this.] ...Suitable for them, anyway.
[...But ugh all those eyes. After another moment of discomfort he sighs.]
All right, what about something from my childhood? It's nothing grand, but it's something I suppose.
no subject
Well, whatever you're comfortable telling everyone. Really, I wouldn't want you to talk about anything that you don't want to share.
no subject
[If somewhat embarrassing, as all childhood stories are.]
When I was younger, I went out off on my own to try and hunt some small game for practice. I liked to wander and explore the forests outside of the village, and my father showed me most of the trails, so I knew my way around fairly well. While I was tracking down an ermine, it led me up a snow embankment... However it wasn't solid and the snow collapsed from my weight. I ended up sliding down the hill for quite a while to an area I was unfamiliar with.
no subject
Oh no! What happened? Where did you end up?
[ She is Invested in the story, and so are the dogs, who are now all watching and waiting with great anticipation. ]
disclaimer: i am making this all up and will retcon if have to lmfao
It was still day out so I could at least see where I was going, but as you can imagine, it was pretty frightening for a ten year old. I didn't tell anyone where I was going and I had no idea where I was, so the fear of being lost and never found was expected. But I remembered what my father taught me. Orient your position, find the nearest familiar landmark, create your own starting marker, and keep moving. It would have been better if I could get to higher grind, but the embankment was too steep and slippery, so I had to try and figure things out where I was.
After noting the position of the sun and marking a nearby tree, I walked in the general direction of the village. However, it wasn't a straight path and I got turned around until at some point I entered a dark area of the woods. And there I heard some rustling and quiet growling.
follow your dreams!!
The corgis perk up when he talks about arriving to a particularly scary section of the woods, and a few take a stance as though they're ready to fight whatever is going to come up with Eustace's story; Ori, meanwhile, leans forward, her eyes full of curiosity. What did he find...! ]
no subject
I did have my hunting knife with me, so I pulled it out before slowly backing away. The growling was loud...but also small. Still, I was a kid who only knew the basics, so even a young predator could take me down if it wasn't careful. My best hope was to get out and run, hoping it won't follow.
But just as I started to step back, I heard the sound of metal dragging and then a yelp. Recognizing the sound as a trap, I stopped and hesitated. I could run, or check it out. Hearing the whimpers, I ended up walking towards the brush and pulled it back to see what the trap had caught.
[He then pauses and looks at them.]
Can you guess what it was?
no subject
When he asks her to guess, though, she looks up at him and blinks. That's right— this is Eustace, and he's not even of the same realm as she is. While she isn't sure what manner of beings reside in the forests of his home, there is one thing she is sure of— ]
Umm... a puppy?
[ —and that it's Eustace has a huge soft spot for dogs, and that it wouldn't surprise her if such a spot has existed from his childhood. All of which is evidenced by the fact that she's currently surrounded by corgis. ]
no subject
Close. It was a wolf cub.
It's not unusual for hunters to lay out traps, though these were mostly a deterrent to keep predators away from the village. It was old, but it was enough to tell me that I wasn't too far from home at least. More importantly, the cub's paw was trapped and it couldn't get out. Since I didn't see sign of its pack, I guessed that it must have wandered off and got lost.
[Same as him, ah ha.]
As you can guess, I felt bad for it, so although it was ready to bite me if I got too close, I walked around, undid the trap, and let it free. It was surprised at first before it tried to run off, but its paw was too injured. I could have left it alone, but I knew it would die as it was. So I managed to coax it so I could treat its paw, using the snow to clean it and then wrap some cloth around it. I think then it began to trust me and let me pick it up to carry it away.
But then I noticed it was getting darker and colder and I still hadn't figured out the way back home. I could only pick a direction and hope I was going the right way.
no subject
[ She continues to be unsurprised that even a child Eustace would go out of his way to help an animal in need, especially a canine. The corigs seem to approve, their bottoms wiggling happily as they learn of their caretaker's past escapades in helping dogs. ]
Were you able to find your way back home...? What about the wolf cub?
