Hey there! You can just call me Alphen. I've already encountered many warriors and seasoned soldiers. We have strong fighters here.

I'm interested in seeing weaponry or combat gear. There are some really neat swords with intriguing designs. Still, I know that a weapon can be lethal all the same. So I've been meaning to ask a question as well.

For what reason would you fight?

I fight to protect my friends. I want to use my strength for the right reasons.

Granted, all I know how to do is wield a sword. I'd be more than glad to put those skills to use. I'm willing to spar and exchange combat moves with someone. Maybe we can learn with one another. I can't exactly let my blade rust when seriously powerful beasts could attack at any moment.

They were the last I knew.
What about yours?

That's good to hear.

My friends have become my family. They're in this world with us so I'm not alone.

Did all of them come with you?

Did you all come together then? Like, intentionally?

Not all of them are here, no.

We would normally travel together to distant realms, but we haven't been here for very long. Just over a month or so.

How about you? Do you know this place well?

I haven't been keeping track of time, but it's probably been the same amount of time. Maybe. Honestly, I forget that time even really exists here. There's really not a lot of the place TO know. I'm sure you saw it when you arrived, there wasn't much just yet. It's kind of like it's being built as more people arrive.

You're right I saw that around the time I arrived. Everything around us is constantly changing.

Hey, let me know if you ever need a place to keep your blades sharp. I've been managing a smithy with some assistance. That job's too big for me to keep up on my own.

Actually, I COULD use that. I only arrived with the sword on my back, so it's not like I have a collection or anything, but it's definitely seen its fair use since my arrival. If it got dull, that'd be a real problem. Not impossible, but it would slice through things easier without it losing its edge.

You're absolutely right.

I always keep my sword close by so I can fight any time. If our weapons aren't properly maintained then we may as well be heading into battle unprepared.

We need to stay sharp.

If you don't mind me asking what kind of sword do you have?

It'd be pretty unfortunate to get caught in a battle unprepared.

I'd say my sword's pretty nondescript. It's a two-hander. Heavy. Not the easiest thing to swing around. It gets the job done, though.

A heavier weapon can deal serious damage with a single swing.

Swords in general are easy to use. Not everyone can fight though and it takes real skill to battle.

It can, if one has the discipline to keep it in check. Easy to overswing and tire yourself out. Easy to underestimate the weight, too. And just because you've swung a sword once or twice doesn't mean you know how to use it to its full potential.

Not that it sounds like I need to be saying that to you. Pretty sure you know your way around a sword and then some.

I learned how to wield a sword when I was in the army.

It's all I can do. I still want to make a difference with the skills I have. If I can use my strength to protect others then I'll do just that.

A rusted blade won't be seeing much action. Are there any dents or cracks in your weapon?

[Yeah. He's thought it was something like that. And when it's all you know, well... That says enough on its own, doesn't it.]

I'm sure there's more you can do than just swing your sword, but I get it either way. Pretty sure I've said similar things many times.

I haven't noticed anything too serious on my sword aside from some wear and tear. It could probably use an extra set of eyes, though. I wouldn't mind letting you take a look for yourself.

I'm still looking for ways to improve the quality of our gear. So let me see....you're Nier?

That's right. But I guess I should let you know there's another Nier here. I'm the old one and that's the best way to make the distinction.

[Unless he changes his name or something. At this rate, maybe people ought to just call him 'Old Man.']

Good question. It's not exactly easy to explain. We aren't the same people. That's probably the best way I can put that. Anything beyond it and I just don't have the answers for you.

There's a lot of things I jusr don't get here but I've been trying to make the most of it

I'm sure that's the same for us all. Too many questions and just not enough answers. I thought we might get the answers in time, but I'm honestly not any closer than I was when I initially arrived.
