hey guys! i'm sora! i've been hanging out in this world for about five months now!

i wanted to asked everyone something that might help me figure out what i'm looking for. i wanted to ask what you think a heart is made out of.

and i don't mean your heart that makes your body work. i mean your heart. the thing inside of you that makes you who you are. that makes you happy or feel great. that makes you angry or cry. the heart inside of you that makes you part of everything around you or makes you see the light or darkness in your world.

i guess some people would call those souls? but i've always known them as hearts!

i wanna know what you think makes you, you. what your heart says about you! and how you think it got there.

As for your question, I suppose when I think about 'what makes me who I am'... I think about the people and the things that I care about and want to protect. The more that somebody cares about something or someone, the more it might make them feel or the stronger those feelings are, even if sometimes it's sadness or anger or regret... The more that space that something or someone takes up in the heart.

I have always thought of heart and soul as being one, though. Or very much connected to one another! Where I'm from, the soul is something that magic can affect one way or another. If someone were to catch another's soul and take it away... then that would very much be like taking away their heart, too.

hi ori!! thanks for writing back! i've been to a few worlds like this one so it's almost pretty normal for me! i like it here, it's really dreamy. get it? heh

you know, a lot of what you wrote is how i feel about hearts and souls too. i know hearts are complicated and they have so much about them that we don't really understand. but how we feel about each other and how much we care about others and how much we want to fight or cry or smile or laugh really do make up what our hearts are. i know you're right about that one

in my world it's almost like hearts are made up of three different parts. all of them making one whole. take one part away and it's gonna be hard to be whole.

i've never heard of magic that can take someone's soul away or effect heart though. that sounds like a crazy kind of magic. do you know what it's like to use magic that affects that kind of stuff?

and look! i wrote more than i ever wrote in school on one page just now!

What makes up a heart, where you're from? I can definitely imagine why taking away any part of a heart would make it impossible to be whole.

Where I'm from, this sort of magic is rare and unfortunately not something I am very a familiar with, apart from knowing that it exists... It's quite beyond my own knowledge of magic. All that I know is that it is not magic that I would want to acquaint myself with.

yeah! this topic is pretty important to me! to be honest, there's someone i'm trying to help fix his heart. he's the one who's missing a part of his that makes him whole. that's why i'm trying to figure out anything that might help me help him, you know?

i wish the magic you were talking about was something i could see or maybe learn myself. i wouldn't wanna do anything bad with it, i just wanna help him. is that magic really that bad?

as for hearts in my world? those three parts are usually your light, darkness and body.

Oh no... I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you'll be able to find a way to help him!

I suppose magic to do with souls is not inherently bad, but to my knowledge it's mostly used to trap unwilling souls... I think. Or perhaps to draw someone's soul back into the body to bring them back to life. But I do have healing magic, and if somehow that can help your friend, I would be willing to try.

Do you know which of those three parts your friend is missing...?

it's okay! i'm doing my best to make sure i can try and do something for him. he's really special to me.

i know for sure that's he's missing the light part of his heart. that's usually the tricky one.

I am glad you have each other here, then. Maybe there are ways to help him here that would not be possible where you came from, like if you used dreamotion, maybe...

The light part of his heart, though... when I think of what makes up the 'light' of someone's heart, even if I do not know anything about the way hearts work in your world... I would think of the bonds that make someone want to keep going and believing in something. I suppose you could call that 'faith,' too.

yeah thats what i'm hoping for! if we can't find anything back home there's gotta be something someone knows here, right? i'll keep looking. dreamotion too!

Yes, faith! I think 'faith' can mean a lot of things for a lot of people, and it really is about what someone feels is important to them... whether that's a god, or in their family or friends...

i like the idea of faith being a big part of it. what that means for different people is important too! and that in itself is what a heart is! something uniquely you!

I think, like a lot of people, I believe in my friends. Both the ones I have at home and the ones I have made here. I like to think that everything I do is so that they can succeed and be happy and follow their dreams! I also have a lot of faith in the primal powers of nature and the elements...

i really like that answer! i'm the same way i think what i have most is faith in my friends! i want to see them happy and safe always and no matter what! i don't think i'd be anything without them.

[ Although this could have been quite a heavy discussion, she's actually having a great time talking about this! She thinks Sora is very sweet. ]

I'm sure that your friends would say that you're strong on your own, too, but I understand how you feel too!

Maybe we just need to help your friend find his 'faith'! That seems like a good place to start, at least.

yeah, i think that's a great place to start. i should ask him what he really believes in. and what he wants to believe in.

[He knows there are hopes and dreams and memories there. But to believe in something bigger than himself, that's a big deal.]

What he wants to believe in... that's wonderful! I think a lot of people might not even really know that about themselves. I don't think it needs to be something grand, either, but maybe that kind of faith would be the most helpful with finding 'heart!'

[ She knows, for example, that she wants to believe in herself a little more. But that might not be what Sora's friend needs. ]

i just hope he doesn't think it's all for nothing! he can be a little bit of a grump, he might think all this faith and hope and stuff is gross.
