hey guys! i'm sora! i've been hanging out in this world for about five months now!

i wanted to asked everyone something that might help me figure out what i'm looking for. i wanted to ask what you think a heart is made out of.

and i don't mean your heart that makes your body work. i mean your heart. the thing inside of you that makes you who you are. that makes you happy or feel great. that makes you angry or cry. the heart inside of you that makes you part of everything around you or makes you see the light or darkness in your world.

i guess some people would call those souls? but i've always known them as hearts!

i wanna know what you think makes you, you. what your heart says about you! and how you think it got there.

uh well i did turn into a heartless for a little while

but like i said! once i got my heart back everything was fine! i'm stronger than ever! promise!

Thank you for those sentiments. Indeed, I am a doctor, as well as a university professor in forensic science. I have quite a few years of experience in both of those professions.

whoa! forensic science?! so that means you know how to read blood and fingerprints and stuff? that's awesome?! is it hard? do you get to help catch all the bad guys? have you ever talked face to face with a criminal?!

[professorbestie]

I've spoken face to face with many criminals, yes. And there was a time where I assisted in hunting them down. Nowadays, however, I spend most of my time teaching the younger generation. There's been very little 'bad guy catching' this past decade, I'm afraid.

wow all i'm picturing is this hardened grizzled old detective guy sitting at a desk with a cigar and a hat on his head. everything's black and white. and you're going over criminal files for a fresh-faced detective you're teaching the ropes to. that's so cool

[What is this, noir fiction??? He's not even a detective?!]

[Goodness, he's not teaching anyone to be a detective. ... Well, in a roundabout way he is. Forensic science is the future of law-enforcement, after all. But that's not quite what Sora is picturing.]

I'm afraid that only the hat is accurate. Even so, I'm flattered you would have such a "cool" image of me.

[He knows what otherworldly slang is, he is hip like that.]

you are really cool!! can you teach me some of that forensics stuff sometime??

Of course. I would be happy to. However, it would be mostly theoretical, as a true autopsy experience would require a corpse for us to examine.

whoaaa?! can't we start with like dusting for fingie prints first???

[Don't jump the gun with the crazy stuff yet, dad!!]

I apologize. What I meant to say is that we are limited to theoretical lessons regardless of intent.

What are fingie prints?

oh!! that's good, i don't think i wanna see all the corpses and stuff yet! gotta build up to that sort of thing, you know? hahaha!

fingies! finger prints! don't detectives in the movies always dust for them?

I see. Truth be told, the concept of identifying finger prints is still relatively new in my world. Or perhaps I ought to say in my time. Is it truly so widespread where you come from?

whoa! you're from another time too! it must make tracking down the bad guys a little harder!

but yeah i've seen some stuff where a dust is used to collect fingerprints and things like that. everyone's prints can be looked up so you can find who was there at a crime scene sometimes. if you can get good prints!

[At least that's what happens in the movies.]

Then, finger print identification has been accepted by law-enforcement as acceptable evidence in your world? That's very good to hear. Though, I suppose it must have led to an increase of criminals wearing gloves.

yeah i guess so? that would make sense! but sometimes it is a good thing to have if the criminal was dumb enough!

[professorbestie]

[Yujin actually ends up laughing out loud at that.]

That's a very fair point. I suppose one would have to be a bit slow on the uptake in order to commit a crime in the first place.

yep! most bad guys are pretty dumb in general!
anyone who wants to hurt someone or steal for bad reasons is pretty dumb.

so the fingerprint thing is a good thing to have!

[professorbestie]

Indeed. I hope my own world will accept this method as true evidence soon, then. It will surely help everyone a great deal.

yeah! but in the meantime you guys just have to be extra ahead of the criminals, huh? i bet that's super exciting too.
