I hope this works. The journals we would have back home weren't like this. Showing everyone. Not unless we wrote online and it was public. I did only recently get here though. I'm Kinomoto Sakura! Sakura being my first given name, Kinomoto being my family one. I'm from Tomoeda in Japan. I'm thirteen fourteen now? I think. I'm not sure if this really counts as my birthday or not. I've never had one apart from my family and friends before. If this does count. That's a little strange to think about.

Back home, I'd have weird dreams but not quite like this exactly. And there was magic but not quite the same as this what I've seen so far at least. I'm still figuring all this out. This dream magic? Or whatever it's called. I do at least have one familiar face though! Kero-chan is with me. I mean. My stuffed toy came with me. Otherwise, I guess. I'm not sure if I should ask on how it works exactly? Dreaming? I mean. If others might be able to see my dreams here or?

[Because. Well. There's some things she is still trying to keep secret. And given her dreams are often prophetic and rather odd or dangerous sometimes. That might be important to know.]

I hope you can! That would be wonderful, to be able to rebuild. Start again! Maybe even improve things from before! It's like another chance. At least. I guess that is how I see it. But I know I'm kind of. Naïve? Optimistic like that? I can stick with Zelda-san then, if that helps.

But ah, sort of! I wasn't really expecting any, without my friends and family from home here with me, but. People here have been really nice!

[ Sakura's attempt to cheer her on in rebuilding her kingdom brings a warm feeling to Zelda's chest. She smiles at her notebook. ]

There is nothing naïve about optimism. It is a sign of great strength of character and fortitude in the face of adversity. [ It's something Zelda hasn't been able to muster for a long time. ] Thank you for your kind wishes, Sakura.

That is wonderful to read! Birthdays are an important occasion and should be celebrated, even in an unexpected situation like this one. What sort of gifts did you receive?

I guess it's just how I am? Like it's my sort of 'magic'. Always telling myself things will be alright.

Ah, well. I got some snacks? So far! That was nice! Especially when I'm still so new here and all.

[ Something about this interaction feels familiar, but Zelda isn't able to put her finger on it until Sakura describes it as her 'magic.' ] Two of the heroes of my homeland were blessed with that same magic. They were always our guiding light, giving us the strength to carry on even when things were at their bleakest.

[ It brings tears to her eyes, remembering Mipha and Daruk. Though they showed it in different ways, both Champions were wellsprings of optimism in the weeks leading up to the Calamity. Zelda misses them greatly. ]

I see, that is very kind. What sort of gifts did you wish for from your family and friends? [ She's trying to think of what kinds of things young girls like. When Zelda was Sakura's age, all she wanted was books. (That's all she wanted at any age.) Do all girls like books, or was it just Zelda? ]

Guiding light? I didn't really think of it like that way before. I just. I'd rather tell myself it would work out, somehow, than get too upset.

But I'm not sure. I suppose Tomoyo-chan would make me some new clothes or something. She's always doing that for me. Otherwise I suppose maybe trips to the aquarium or zoo or something might be fun. Or some snacks I don't usually get too often. I'm just glad next time I'll be with Syaoran-kun for it now he's back in Tomoeda from Hong Kong.
