I have two inquiries to those who are familiar with magic.

RE: SEALING MAGIC
I'd like to know if anyone knows a way to cast some kind of sealing or restraining magic on an accessory or item that could be used to suppress one's own magic or curse. If need a more specific situation, an emergency case where one's powers are running out of control and needs to be contained. The ideal goal would be that it could affect nightmare energy, but that might be more difficult without further knowledge.

[He is definitely asking for specific reasons, but good thing there have been several occasions where things went wildly out of control last month that it won't seem too random.]


RE: TELEPORTATION MAGIC
Similarly, I wish to create some kind of portal that would allow me to easily traverse between my home and other locations that I currently own with potential to add on in the future. [Because it's about time he just accepts he owns these dogs and getting to the Corgi Tree and the Flowers home more instantaneously would be ideal. Though already future proofing? What could he be considering...] Ideally it would be a door with a function to change the location.

This might be a complicated request, if it's even possible, but even just information on how it might work will be appreciated.

Like a transfer gate, in other words. One that would remain in existence and could be opened and closed at will.

I have experience with that type of arte, but not with changing its location without creating an entirely new gate. I would need to do more research to determine whether or not that would be possible. In my world it would not, but this world is not mine, and I can't say for certain if the same rules would hold here.

I recognize the specifications on the door is more complicated than one might be used to, so it's no real loss if it really isn't capable. I'd be fine with starting with single doors and see if something develops in the future.

Have you been able to recreate such a transfer gate here in Reverein?

I have yet to try. This would be the perfect reason to do so.

However, it's likely that the distance between the gates would be more limited here, if the effects this place have had on my exoflection are any indication. How far apart are the two places you wish to connect?

One is within the neighborhood, roughly two blocks away from where I live so it's not too far. The other, however, if in the Wildlands. It's not too deep in, but it's at least a 10-15 minute walk. Unfortunately that is the one I'd prefer the door to connect to.

We'll try with the closer one first. Should that work, we can then attempt the second. It would be ideal for my own research to determine the range within which I'm capable of working in this place.

You mentioned sealing magic as well. What exactly are you seeking on that front? A protective amulet, or more along the lines of a continuous power limiter?

From the sounds of it, there may need to be multiple individuals for the one that is longer distance, but if you're willing to try your method for one of the locations, I see no reason to stop you. Would there be any risks or security issues? What would be required to enter and leave a portal, especially if it remains open?

Possibly both, though the immediate case is a power limiter. Some individuals have powers or curses that can be affected by nightmare energy, making it more difficult for them to maintain control. It would be ideal if they had additional limiters should one fail.

Assuming that it's to be left open, using it would be simple-- you would simply step through the gate to utilize it. However, the security risks would be exactly what you imagine: anyone else could do the same as well. That may make it less convenient than you would prefer in terms of where you might wish to locate it.

As far as the limiter goes, it would be something that would only need to be activated at specific times rather than being constantly in effect, correct?

Thus either the locations themselves need to be properly secured or the gate has to have some kind of recognition system if I want it to be the most secure... Hm. I'll have to consider this.

But the limiter would ideally be both, moreso ongoing. Assume someone currently has a limiter device, but what they have is destroyed. Without a replacement, it becomes a dangerous situation for everyone. However, I am aware of limitations, so having something that worked as an emergency "brake" would also be a beneficial backup.

Yes. It may be possible to modify the type of transfer gate I'm familiar with via dreamotion to allow for the functions you desire, but that too would require more testing on my end.

A device that serves as an ongoing limiter would be fairly straightforward to make, on the other hand. A colleague of mine in my world has one in order to keep his own powers from causing damage to his body. It would be a matter of analyzing the power itself and then creating a device imbued with a power that is the opposite of the power you're trying to limit-- nullifying it, in effect.

I'm open to the different possibilities that have been posited thus far, however I do not wish for anyone to strain themselves either.

That makes the most sense for the limiter, and since nightmare energy seems to affect things greatly, using dreamotion should help as a counter as well.

A combination approach may prove to be the most effective as it is. Differing types of powers can make up for what the others lack.

The limiter would need to remain on one's body or in the near vicinity in order for its abilities to maintain their effect, but I see no reason not to utilize dreamotion to augment it. It might provide the failsafe you were concerned about, particularly against nightmare energy.

I'll see what information I collect and revisit it again with a more concrete plan. See who is willing to work with which portal as the one to the Wildlands will be the most difficult.

What you say of the limiter is exactly what is needed. Are there any risks in using your version?

None that I'm aware of save for the power dissipating if the limiter itself is broken. But that also means that simply removing or destroying the limiter would allow for immediate access to the magic it was limiting should the need arise.

How complicated is it to make it?

The construction itself is simple enough. I would just need an exposure to the power it will be meant to be limiting in order to be able to create the nullifying arte.

Even in this world? Would you be using dreamotion?

To augment my own mirristry, yes. It seems the wise choice given both that my abilities are weaker here than in my world and the fact that it is native to this place. It would likely be more effective than relying on mirristry alone, but the concept is the same as an anti-mirrage bracelet or a protective mirrage.

Are "mirristry" and "mirrage" what you call the type of magic in your own world?

"Mirristry," yes. A mirrage is the catalyst that a mirrist uses to cast and focus their artes.

In the case of my colleague, what he has is a protective mirrage to suppress his own powers when he uses his artes.

If this limiter is created with your mirristry, would anyone else be able to replicate it should you no longer be around?

I suppose that would depend on how reliant it is on my mirristry versus dreamotion. Theoretically I could make multiple limiters, but it would take me time to do so.

That's what I was afraid of. Ideally it would be based more on dreamotion and then the technique you use could be replicated in some way by other magic or some other alternative if needed.

Assuming that dreamotion could create a suitable nullifying power, it might be possible to utilize that for the majority of it, yes. Any type of magic should work as long as it can create a signature that would be the opposite of the power that's going to be suppressed. It needn't be limited to mirristry-- that's just the only kind of non-dreamotion magic I'm capable of using.

It would still be better to take advantage of what can be done regardless, so I still won't refuse your offer.

How durable would the limiter be?

That would depend on what sort of form the wearer desires. A necklace or bracelet are common forms for such things.

I would make it as durable as possible, but it would be subject to the physical limitations of its form.
