Entry 2. | Open Invitation: Seeking Performers and Staff for Public Talent Competition
Sender: Emet-Selch
To: All
Subject: Solaris Theatrical Productions & Reverein Talent Show
Greetings and felicitations, fellow dreamwalkers.
In case we are yet unacquainted, I am Emet-Selch. And rather than an inquiry, today I would extend an open invitation to all of you.
Over the past several months I have been working together with my most gracious hosts at the Grand Theatre House in a collaborative effort to bring something new and inspired to Reverein. In order to do this, I would seek talented individuals to join my theatre company.
Rather than hold a private audition, however, I thought it far more exciting to prepare a much larger event for all to partake in. After all, many of us are possessing of unique skills and fascinating abilities, so why not indulge the opportunity to showcase these talents upon a magnificent stage?
Thus have I decided to hold the REVEREIN TALENT SHOW. Whether you've an inclination towards the performing arts or not, you are all welcome to attend, or to simply savor a few moments in the spotlight if that is your desire. There will be rewards, of course. And those who have earned a place within my company will be announced at the conclusion of the event. If the idea of being judged frightens you, there will also be opportunity for improvisational and free-form performances following the main attraction.
Details are as outlined below, and I am available for anyone who has further questions about the competition. Anyone who should like to join our staff is encouraged to reach out to either myself or the Grand Theatre House managerial staff. At this time, we are yet seeking additional seats for our judges panel as well as those who might volunteer their time and talents to make this event a true spectacle.
The competition will be held early next month, over a course of two evenings on the 5th and 6th days. I trust this will allow everyone ample opportunity to perfect their routines. And with that, I shall eagerly await the chance to witness your performances.
Best of luck!
((OOC: tl;dr the Grand Theatre House will be hosting a Talent Show during the evenings of September 5 and 6. Anyone may participate! If you'd like your character to enter for a chance at prizes and snarky judges' commentary, please reply in the thread below. Applications will remain open indefinitely. (And are totally voluntary, by the way! Your character can still show up and perform if they wish!) This is mostly just to give me and the other players an idea of how many characters we'll be judging and who actually wants to join Emet-Selch's theatre group. You may assume that flyers advertising the event have cropped up around town (if they don't all get blown away!) and within a few of the shops who will be taking part in the event.))

Event Flyer & Details
Should you happen upon one, the flyer will appear something like this, with a very distinct and elaborately embossed design in the art deco style:
Application Form
A note at the bottom reads:
For inquiries about volunteer opportunities or filling a seat on the judges panel, contact the Grand Theatre House managerial staff or Emet-Selch directly.
no subject
Single or group performance: Single
Briefly describe your talent: Amateur Violinist
Would you like to be evaluated by our judges panel? Yes
Are you auditioning to join Solaris Theatrical Productions? No
Would you like your performance to be considered for a short run at the Grand Theatre House? Yes
no subject
Single or group performance: Single
Briefly describe your talent: I am a musician at heart, proficient in the violin, flute and lute, among others. I have been retired from public performance from some time, but am interested in taking the stage once more. This seems a perfect opportunity to revisit the violin after it has been left idle for far too long.
["Brief" is hard for him.]
Would you like to be evaluated by our judges panel? Yes
Are you auditioning to join Solaris Theatrical Productions? Yes
Would you like your performance to be considered for a short run at the Grand Theatre House? Yes

Single or group performance: Single
Briefly describe your talent: An aerial silk dance with accompanied music. Attire will be tasteful, she promises.
Would you like to be evaluated by our judges panel? Yes
Are you auditioning to join Solaris Theatrical Productions? Sure
Would you like your performance to be considered for a short run at the Grand Theatre House? Why not?
...But she'd also like to finish all the acts with a nice little wrap-up. Nothing to judge, nothing that'll go on the stage in a long-standing fashion, but she'd like to invite the judges up on stage to sit and relax while she'll do some speed cooking! She'd like to make some lovely banana creme pie for them as quickly as she can while the carbuncles that now live with her do their best to interrupt and make a mess of things as a clownish slapstick act. This will, of course, be accompanied by... very strange music. Slapstick is timed with the discordant notes.
The final 'tumbling death' of the song is joined by a carbuncle tripping her up as she fights to keep herself upright and balance a pie in each hand, winding up getting one in her face... but the other is lost into the face of an """""unexpected""""" member of the judge's panel.
Upon which, she'll bow and exit stage right. Very quickly.

Single or group performance: ...I guess technically a group? He's got a bunch of shadow buddies to provide live music.
Briefly describe your talent: Singing and dancing with some magic to spice things up.
Would you like to be evaluated by our judges panel? Yes
Are you auditioning to join Solaris Theatrical Productions? No, but he wouldn't be opposed to helping out on occasion.
Would you like your performance to be considered for a short run at the Grand Theatre House? Yes
The performance would be something like this unfinished fan animation but without the flipping back and forth between living and demon Alastor: You've got him crooning away with some dance steps and magical effects because he's being extra as hell. He's a performer and a show-off.

Single or group performance: Single
Briefly describe your talent: Singing and playing the lute or mandolin, and playing the flute
Would you like to be evaluated by our judges panel? Yes

After all, one can scarcely help but admire a well-acted story, or else be captivated by music played from the heart. 'Tis an expression of life itself. Would you not agree?
As to your request, is there aught you should like to help with? I would not have this become a chore nor any form of repayment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Themis, but I have been told that you are quite skilled at illusionry. If such is the case, perhaps you might assist me in maintaining an appropriate ambience for the venue?
While the main focus will indeed be on each individual's performance, I find that setting a complementary visual mood enhances the feeling and tone one seeks to convey.
It may also serve as a way for you to further practice dreamotion whilst forming your own opinions about the arts as a whole.

My faith is rarely misplaced.
Besides, this is little more than a diversion in the end. A gathering for entertainment purposes rather than ceremony. It need not be flawless. That being said, I've no doubt you're entirely capable of completing the task more than adequately should you decide to accept it.
As to your non-question, I have heard tell of you through a mutual friend. Nothing worth fretting over, mind you. All quite complimentary.
Yet perhaps that much is a discussion best worth having at home.
[Themis, dear boy, please don't tell everyone reading about his leadership role. He is trying very hard to keep a low profile.]

[Adequate enough, he says. But he intends to be far more than that. Though Emet-Selch has specifically stated a flawless display is not the intention, Themis would give him nothing less- and is taking this 1000% seriously.]
𝙸 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚔 𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚝𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝 𝚑𝚊𝚜 𝚖𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚝.
[And he thinks Emet-Selch, despite not wanting to portray himself for who he is, is showing quite a fair amount of leadership by organizing something like this.]

My thanks. Both the theatre and I are fortunate for your assistance, Themis. ...and for your open-mindedness. Perhaps you've the right of it. Not only will all gathered be able to enjoy two evenings together in fellowship, but this may serve as a starting point for many future collaborations.
And of course. The schedule will yet change, mind you, but we can most certainly review the applications together. Presently we've a number of musical acts, an aerial silks performance, several dramatic skits, a comedy sketch -- oh, and an animal act. Nothing dangerous. I believe they mentioned birds.
["Nothing dangerous" he says.]

I’m currently working on setting up a flower shop at the moment and I wish to gain some more experience before I can open it.
no subject
In light of that, I daresay the theatre house would serve you well as an opportunity to display your floral arrangements as works of art - and an excellent chance for exposure. Anyone who attends may remember your flowers when at last you've prepared to open up your shop.
Personally, I lack a green thumb. So any flora you'd be willing to provide would be most welcome.

Do let me know if you've any questions about theming. Likewise, should you wish to take a look at the venue itself, you need only ask the staff at the reception area. They've been quite easy to work with, and I've no doubt that one of them should be happy to escort you into the theatre proper.
My associates and I may be adding some of our own flourishes as well, so if you notice any locations within the theatre in need of additional lighting, or floating platforms that will make is easier for your flowers to be seen, do keep us apprised.

I have, of course, taken some stylistic liberties... art deco, I believe most modern architects call it. Any plants you may find with tall, spiraling stems or draping vines would be particularly lovely as part of the display. Much of the interior is made up of neutral tones - warm browns and tans and gold, with the occasional pop of bolder colors serving as accents to catch the naked eye.
Therefore, I suspect, it should not be too difficult to fashion something to fit these surroundings.
no subject
If there is something I’m stuck on at the moment or if I have made some progress, I will let you know ahead of time.

You're quite welcome, Miss Isabella. Should you have any other questions, I shall be more than pleased to provide you with the answers.
On behalf of the theatre, your contribution is much appreciated. I wish you the best of luck in your artistic endeavors.

Both the theatre and myself are sparing no effort in making this an experience worthy of being remembered. Though even if that were not the case, I've no intention of declining anyone outright. There is yet much to be done, and this sudden change in the weather certainly isn't helping things.
Your application detailed your musical proficiencies, yet I should like to hear more of these "other areas" with which you are versed, if you would care to indulge me.
no subject
I did have a striking turn as a Lindwurm in this world's rendition of Romeo and Juliet, some months back. I am told the death scene felt quite visceral to those watching.
/sends Dohalim a friend request
[Given this individual's proper speech and the fact that they too were financially capable of serving as a patron, Emet-Selch gets the distinct impression that they are of the upper class, if not outright nobility. Of course, such minor details do not faze him in the slightest. But they do make this conversation all the more interesting, and this particular applicant seems all the more promising for it.]
Were you now? How fortuitous then that we should encounter one another. I, too, am a longtime patron of the arts - particularly that of a traveling theatrical company founded by one Jenomis cen Lexentale, and I daresay the best playwright of his time.
I've also a fondness for poetry. Perhaps you might incorporate one of your latest works into your violin performance?
/accepts IMMEDIATELY
[This man would devour The Zodiac Brave Story.]
As for your suggestion, I am alarmed I had not thought to do so already! I suppose in taking something of a sabbatical from the violin for some time, it was not the first thing to come to mind, but I will take it under consideration. Doing so could produce something truly unique.

As to magic, I daresay there is much and more to be learned if one puts forth the time and effort into doing so. Although my own research has mostly been focused on Dreamotion and the energies present here, I'd not be surprised to hear that the magical laws and capabilities of other worlds vary greatly from those with which I am familiar.
[At least, he'd no longer be surprised, not after all he's witnessed.]
'Twas a suggestion only. I confess I am rather limited musically. Most of what I know is as a member of the audience.]

But rest assured, my brazen-faced and thoroughly impertinent traveling companion - the only thing I shall be doing whensoever I return to the star is taking a long overdue nap. One of the regular kind, mind you.
no subject
A nap with that 'friend' of yours?

[He also recognizes that the man is trying to get under his skin. To what purpose, he knows not, but he can only assume he's still bitter about something, and he himself makes for a satisfying target. Leave it to an Ascian to be elected as the perfect verbal punching back to relieve one's stress and frustrations.]
Well, if you change your mind, may I suggest that you do not entertain thoughts of putting together a comedy act overlong? Your delivery really is quite abysmal.
As for the latter, you will have to be far more specific. I've a fair number of friends here and I rather fail to see your sudden interest in my sleeping schedule.
no subject
Oh, the one the Warrior of Light told me about, Hyth...something. That's who I was referring to.
no subject
And I should certainly hope not. Not that it matters to you, but all of the applications we have received thus far have been exceedingly promising.
Yet, regrettably, I must admit your rather vague description falls short of jogging my memory. Hippokampus? Hippopotamus? Hythergraph? I honestly fail to imagine who you could possibly mean. Perhaps you might try again once you've learned to spell.
[He knows exactly who Thancred means and he will simply continue to play dumb otherwise. His friend is not up for discussion and he will not allow Hythlodaeus' name to be sullied, not even in the midst of this handwritten snarking session.]
no subject
Well then, I will enjoy the show instead of participating. And I'll make sure Ryne knows, somehow, that you approve.
Look, I'm going on what the Warrior told me, and they were rushing through what they'd learned. They were one of the Ancients they met.
no subject
[Yet the latter words do give Emet-Selch reason to pause and read them over again. It's an odd way of phrasing it, one that makes him think that Thancred (or the Warrior, rather) was not referring to one of his shades, but to the real Hythlodaeus. He's heard tell of their encounter in his recreated Amaurot, heard too even more unbelievable tales that that. Yet here it is again - entirely unprompted.]
Oh, I can hardly wait. Especially now that I know that you will be watching enraptured from the stalls.
[Dryly, of course.]
As to the rest, given your determination to jog my memory, mayhap you should provide me with a reason to address your queries more seriously.
no subject
Merely a suggestion. Something to get you to relax a little. Nothing more.
[He's realizing that something may be off, if he doesn't remember Everything That Happened tm]
no subject
[He knows not.]
Indeed? How very, very surprising.
I must say it's lucky for you that I am both well-rested and perfectly relaxed. Your sentiments, therefore, are wholly unnecessary.
[Liar.]
