While that may be true, you gotta have a certain level of charisma for somethin' like this to work anyway.

You need to have the capacity for manipulation. That can take several forms, not only likeability.

True true. You ain't gonna catch any goody twoshoes bein' able to work on that level. Charm an' a real good convincin' attitude. Aint no one gonna be manipulated by you if you make 'em feel like they cant trust ya.

I mean unless it's outta fear, but that's like a whole nother can of worms.

Being liked and trusted is the easiest lever to manipulate, but the least reliable.

In my experience, the easiest route is to simply convince the target that you can give them what they want if they cooperate with you. Do that, and they won't care how little they trust you.
