Huh. All of these sound really plausible, which is the tricky part. But before I answer, could you tell me what's a judicial assistant? Sounds like some kind of lawyer thing.

Well, um, not a thing, but they work closely with lawyers, yes. Typically they attend trials, do research, and provide insight into the case. They also take notes, transcribe testimony, and compile everything when it is all over.

Huh, that sounds like a lot of hard work. Like, you're doing all the legwork it sounds like.

Okay, but for the sake of your game... is 3 the lie?

Correct!

While I have come to appreciate romance, my heart will always belong to mystery and intrigue. Good job! [ There are some dashes drawn, meant to symbolize confetti. ]

Haha, thanks. And I agree, mystery novels are kind of cool. They really keep you guessing.

Wait I gotta ask. If you're a lawyer's assistant, does that mean you know Samurai Lawyer?

closes mouth. Too bad he can't see it, but at least he has successfully distracted her from going off about Herlock Sholmes. ]

You know Kazuma?

Yeah, I know him. He's a friend, kinda. He's also the first lawyer I've met who's also a samurai.

He's also the first lawyer I've met, but like, details.

I had no idea...

I've known him since I was very little. He is still an excellent swordsman and a proud samurai, though he sadly hasn't been a lawyer for quite some time.

Yeah. We've both been a little busy, so it's been a while, but he's a nice guy. I met him when I first arrived here, and he seemed pretty smart.

Wait, really? From how he sounded, he seemed like he was still working.

[judicialassistant]

Let's see... I believe this will be his fourth, going on fifth year away from our homeland now? He still works, but nowadays, he and I manage the Wild Harvest together. [ Along with Mr 76, of course. ]

Holy shit has he really been away from home that long?
I remember him saying something about coming from a world before this one but 5 years is pretty damn long.

[judicialassistant]

No doubt. It has only been a little over a year for me by comparison. I still miss it terribly on occasion, but I suppose our friends do make it feel a little more like home.

[fishflakes]

Yeah, I hear you. I got some friends back home who I haven't seen in ages. I miss them, too.

[judicialassistant]

[ Ages...

Susato is tempted to ask about them, but for now, she just thinks on that a moment, before deciding she has a little more time and continuing: ]

How did you and Kazuma meet?

[fishflakes]

It was around when I first got here. He caught me daydreaming and we got to talking after. Well, as much talking as I can do, at least. Then we just kind of kept bumping into each other since.

[judicialassistant]

I see. I've had to wake him up from a few daydreams, too.

[ Well, that one time was more like a nightmare... She can still feel the strong grip on her arm as he woke. But that was a long time ago now. ]

He is not always the best at talking about himself.

[fishflakes]

I guess so. He seems like the kind to be more reserved, which is fine. He can understand me well enough, which is good enough for me.

[judicialassistant]

Well, I am glad to hear that.

Toge-san, is it? I hope you continue bumping into each other. And perhaps we will, too.

Thanks. I hope so too. Maybe we'll run into each other sometime.
