Subject: Dreamotion Research Assistance Request

Many of you may already be aware of the ongoing effort to ensure that those who wish to remain in this world may do so. Eustace-san has suggested a logical first step: we need to better understand the nature of the connections between our present selves and our original worlds. While it appears that observing the connection directly is beyond their current instruments, the researchers at the Observatory are hopeful that progressing their understanding of dreamotion could prove helpful.

What we now need are volunteer dreamers who would not object to the study of their dreamwalking and dreamotion. For those willing, if you could reply here or contact myself or Eustace-san, it would be a considerable help. Of course those who have no intention of staying here permanently are also very welcome to assist. I believe learning more about this could be beneficial to all of us.

Finally, the tapirs have suggested that those who no longer exist in their original world may not be tethered to those worlds as tightly. From comparison to the magic of my own world, I believe volunteers with unusual circumstances such as these might be able to provide the researchers with additional clues. Those who have died in their own worlds, who otherwise experienced a separation from their physical bodies, or who may have complex connections as a result of something such as cloning could be particularly helpful. I understand that a number of these subjects may be sensitive. If you don't wish to discuss them in public, you are more than welcome to contact us privately, or to disclose this information only to the researchers themselves.

It turned to dust and fell on a pile of buttercups. I am now one of those buttercups. I used to be a monster before I died for the first time, and monster bodies turn to fust when they die. There's a ritual monsters use, rubbing their dust on the dead persons' favorite objects in order to infuse them with their essence.

I had originally died on the bed of flowers.

I see. But you don't consider your continued consciousness — your essence, I suppose? — the same thing as a soul?

[ It sounds like animus particles to him, upsettingly so. But different worlds certainly have different mechanics.]

I do not. When I died, my SOUL shattered. Monsters are made of magic, so none of our SOULs last that long after death if they last at all. Not like you humans, that have SOULs that can linger seemingly forever.

In my own world, I believe even human souls would ordinarily disperse into nothingness after death. But that seems to be uncommon. I'm sorry to hear of your death, in either case.

Oh, don't worry! I was kidnapped before I arrived here and had my essence modified so I never have to worry about dying permanently anymore! The body I inhabit now will always regenerate, so I'm effectively immortal now.

But anyway, if there's a way this research can give me a different insight to dreamotion, I'll gladly participate! Where should little old me go and when?

That must be a relief to your waking self. I hope your time here is less troubled.

As for the study, the location will be the Dream Observatory with the telescope. I'll speak to the researchers and contact you about a time, but you're welcome to drop by yourself.

Actually, it's in a different country that's called Japan. Part of a continent called Asia. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that your timeline doesn't have them.

What continents DOES your timeline have? And what are they like?

I've heard of Japan from others here, however. I believe you're not the only one from your world.

[ Tir Na Nog's continents... oh dear. Baldr pauses long enough to imprint a very neat little image of a map. ]

There are quite a few now. Sellund, Glenwood, Tethe'alla, others. All but Sellund were lost in a war several years ago. The new continents are varied. They're projections of pieces of other worlds, some of them combined together, or shaped by the memories or imaginations of their focal points.
