Sender: Ralsei To: Anyone Subject: Could use advice So, um... We made it through! Congrats to everyone for beating the story eater out of here. It wasn't easy for me, and it can't have been for all of you. But, um... Well, I think I might have invoked a deity that a friend from the waking world told me about. I'm not really sure what to think about that... Like, should I set up a little shrine to Bahamut? He didn't seem the type to care, really, but... I'm not sure. Does anyone have advice?

You summoned a god?

[ Zelda knows a little something about gods and that sounds like a huge feat to her. ]

Um, yes. It was... one an old friend of mine mentioned to me in passing. I think I called to Bahamut in particular because of how many dragons I've helped. He's one of the two gods of dragons, from my friend's world. Bahamut seemed fascinated by me, but in a benign way. Confused that someone that wasn't even a dragon would call on him. It wasn't intentional, really.

Well, it certainly seems like Bahamut has taken a liking to you. But he plans to stay here in Songerein? He isn't going back to his homeworld?

[ Most people who awaken in Songerein get stuck here, but Zelda would assume a god would be powerful enough to leave on their own. ]

Oh, no, sorry! I think he's gone, now. I mean, I can't really be sure, I guess, but I got the impression it was only because of the Story Eater's, uh, imprint? On the dreamscape that I was able to call to him.

[He was surprisingly polite, actually. Asked permission before poking around his memories and everything!]

It's kind of a shame, I'd have liked to know more about him. I can't exactly ask my friend about him here, haha!

Indeed, that is a shame. I must admit, I would have liked to meet a dragon god for myself.

And a pity that you cannot ask your friend. Were they once a dreamwalker here as well?

They weren't! Not to my knowledge, anyway. Well, I'd be happy to introduce you, if I could. He seemed... friendly, I think. Curious about how I'd called to him -- not that I really know any better -- but willing to help. He didn't seem to expect anything in return, but... well, it kind of feels like I ought to at least do something for him here, so. Maybe I can find someone to draw him from my descriptions...

[ Bahamut's curiosity is understood. Zelda would also love to know how Ralsei summoned him. Too bad Bahamut isn't around anymore; it couldn't been interesting to study. ]

I agree. Even if he didn't ask anything in return, he deserves a reward in some form for his assistance against the Story Eater.

A drawing would be a lovely offering for him. Gods are quite fond of offerings in many forms.

It seems to me like any deities people might summon here would just be dream versions they created, rather than the "real thing."

But I guess it wouldn't hurt to put up a shrine or something? It might help you concentrate or gather dream energy for next time or whatever.

I got the weirdest sense that it wasn't... not-real, even if it wasn't entirely real either. He said something about calling across the Astral? Maybe I should talk to scholars here about that.

[Sure... well, if this guy wants to believe he called upon a real god, it's no skin off Ferran's back. It's not that he doesn't believe that supernatural entities can reach this place at all—but one of them, as dreamers, able to reach anything outside of this world consciously? It seems far fetched.]

It's a term that's new to me. [Sadly, this version of Ferran has very limited experience with connections to higher beings.] Who's this friend who told you about it?

Oh, he's not around here -- he's from where I came from. Not my original world. It's a long story why Bahamut would take an interest in him in particular, but -- in short, he martyred himself for the sake of his friends. If Bahamut hadn't intervened, I'm pretty sure his soul would have been claimed by Tiamat. She's... bad news. [Truthfully, he doubts that he'll be hearing anything more from Bahamut, at least without something as extreme as the story eater to serve as a beacon. But still... it seems respectful to do something for them.] Me, too. I guess I'll ask around!

Another place like this, then?

[That much he's familiar with. As much as he hated it there, his friends... well, that's what made it bearable. The martyring sounds complicated, and he's just as far out of his depth talking about souls as he is gods, but—]

Yeah, another place like this. But no, Bahamut's not from there, or from where I'm from. [There's an extended pause in his writing. It's been nice being here at Songerein, but he does wish his friends could be here. It's not like he can just yoink them away to this place, though!] It's a little complicated, haha!

No, I think I get it. I was in a world separate from mine before, then I went home for a little while before I ended up here.

[... wasn't there something about the opportunity for others to leave that place for a friend's world instead of their own? Ugh, he can't remember. Anyway, that's not quite the same as calling on a god from an unrelated place...]

Did your friend talk about him a lot?

Um, no, actually. They just mentioned him in passing a few times. He talked more about another god, Tiamat... which, I'm really glad I didn't get the attention of, based on what he told me about them... She wasn't a very nice god.

[You know... maybe he shouldn't be saying her name. He'll... avoid that in the future. He sure doesn't know how gods work!]

That's especially weird, then.

And pretty lucky, given just how many personal nightmares were wandering around. What was it even like, invoking him?

[His scientific curiosity must be satisfied.]

Oh, he was actually pretty respectful. Uh, I couldn't actually hear him until... well, I got a sense that he was asking permission to do what felt like a combination of talk to me and read my past, without really, uh, any differentiation between them? So I said yes.

[It was a bit of a whirlwind encounter, really.]

It didn't hurt or anything, but he seemed to figure out pretty quick that I intended well, needed his help, and had done... well, things in line with his domain, in the past, I guess? Like helping out dragons.

[Not quite what he was asking for, but certainly... interesting.]

That definitely sounds better than the alternative.

[Not that Ferran would ever consider a being trying to get into his head anything other than a nightmare, helpful or no... but if that doesn't bother Ralsei, then there's no point bringing that up.]

What about before he actually showed up, though? It sounds like it was an accident. Were you focusing on something else, or trying to channel some other power?

Why would you feel compelled to make a shrine to any diety?

Well... He helped me, mostly. I think. And didn't have to. Aren't shrines to deities what people do in those situations?

[He's not being sarcastic here. The goat doesn't have much experience with religion.]

Gods are unreliable. Capricious at best. Why praise and worship them? That's what a shrine is for.

Oh, are they? I didn't know. I just thought you used shrines to talk to them normally.

Speaking to the wind would be just as effective. A true deity can hear, regardless of if there is a shrine or not.

Oh, I see. Thank you for telling me! You seem to know a lot about gods. What're the ones you know like?

The majority of the gods I know are dead. Hopefully never to return.

going off of the gods I know you probably dont need to but he would be appreciative. you probably wont have to do much after that.

Bahamut, one of the two gods of dragons, from another world. I don't think he has, um, stake in this one, fortunately or not. It's a long story how I know of him, but I've... done a lot of good for dragons, I think, is why I was able to call to him unintentionally...

Uhhh, well, I was fighting someone that uh... seemed like one themselves. Or as good as one. And I asked for help.
