Subject: Expedition and potential sparring partners

Hey guys! That was a crazy feast. All that was missing was some good alcohol, but those tapirs really know how to throw a party.

Anyway, I was thinking and we don't really know much about this place or what's outside the town. Since we'll need to start heading into the forests for hunting and gathering other resources, was thinking of heading out to check it out. Plus aren't these fae things our neighbors now? Or I guess we're their new neighbors...? Can't hurt to see what's there.

There are also those redcaps we need to deal with if we want any iron. I'm not sure about anyone else, but as a swordsman I definitely have a vested interest in that.

...And maybe I want to see how tough they are, haha.




Yeah, okay, I just want to see what kind of tough monsters are out there, heh. Not that I want to make enemies out of allies, but never hurts to know what kind of threats there are, right? Who knows, we might be helping them out, too.

[No, he just wants to find the biggest and strongest thing there is and fight it.]

Speaking of, if anyone needs a sparring partner, I'm your daemon. I'm curious to see how my skills stack up against those from different worlds.

How do you get corrupted in the first place? Can it happen to basically anyone back in your world? Is there some kind of a cure...?

Oh, it's actually more like drinking or smoking for humans. I enjoy drinking blood but I don't need it to survive.

Whoa, a lot of questions! I'll just give the short version since I don't feel like writing an essay.

Malevolence is basically a dark, negative energy created from human vices and sins. You know, murder, lust, greed, envy. Everyone has some amount of malevolence, but the worst those feelings are, the more the malevolence grows. At some point, it grows so much that it can physically transform you into something inhuman, or a monster as most people would call it. The funny thing is, only those with high resonance are able to see that form, though there was a brief period when everyone was able to see it happen so it was mistaken for a disease. Anyway, once you turn daemon, that's it. No turning back. The only time was a special case.

Usually when someone turns daemon they lose all sense of their humanity and really do act like monsters. A lot of times they'll go out to try and seek out more power. But there are those, like me, who retain their reasoning and sense of self, so they can go by unnoticed.

Was it always like this? Or did something happen to make malevolence affect humans so much?
Maybe you're really not as good as I thought you are.

That part I'm not so sure. I think it's been around for a while, but you should ask Eizen. He's from my world and should know more.

But hard to judge a person just from the writing in the journal. I'll be curious what you'll say after you've seen me in person.

To be honest, it's hard to do it even when you meet someone in preson.
But I don't want to judge, I just want to get to know you better.

Haha I'm messing with you a little. Honestly I'm pretty much the same be it through writing or meeting in person, so whatever you wanna do. I'm also a little curious about the whole vampire thing, too.

It depends on what would you like to know.
It's a common misconception that vampires need human blood to survive.
It's more like alcohol or cigarettes.
If a vampire is bloodthirsty, it could mean that they're ill.

[But he's a daemon of course he isn't nice—which is a lie, he's probably the nicest daemon around.]

It's a bit complicated, but something is taking the vampires' true names and turning them into blood thirsty monsters. They can't control it at all.

I guess every world has its own problems...

Haha, seems that way, but it keeps things exciting. [Not everyone shares that sentiment, Rokurou.]

But from the sounds of it, vampires are common where you're from? Like well known or have a large population?
