she lunges forward and pulls his shirt back down if it lifts even SLIGHTLY. ]

Stop!? I'm already sorry, Yato!! [ she stoops down and picks up his jacket, pulling it back around his shoulders and zipping it up. she doesn't bother putting his arms in the sleeves. ] Please, don't undress in public!?

[ IN THIS WEATHER. ]

[Thankfully he doesn't fight her with as much force as he could, still merely being histrionic for its own sake. And once she's got him in his jersey like a straitjacket, he gives up completely to settle for turning on the waterworks.]

Then take it back--! Say my outfit's cool! I wanna be a cool, badass god and I can't do that if I look lame...!

[He wriggles about in his jacket, making the arms flail and lightly smack her.]

[ with no choice, she takes the light smacks of his flailing jersey arms.

it would be funny if she could laugh but yato wants her to say it's cool?! it's not, though. it's just... it's yato. that doesn't make it cool or lame or anything. it's him. nobody could wear it but him. any jersey she sees reminds her of him. ]

Y, Your outfit is... c-cool...?

[It's probably easy to see by the outline in his jersey that he's got his arms crossed beneath it, matching with some of his old godly haughtiness in tone. His eyes narrow at her feeble attempt and he seems to debate for a while in silence.

Finally...]

Hmph! Hardly convincing but I guess it'll do...

[Out pops his arms and hands, which he uses to straighten out his shirt and jacket like it's nothing before huffing once again.]

You're supposed to be my follower/guidepost, so show a little more support here!

[ uh, yukine never had to tell him his outfit was cool (nor would he)... she's pretty sure...

but amongst all that, he does have a point. she should support him. her brow furrows at herself, conflicted. ]

I don't think you're cool because of your outfit, though, Yato. It's for other things.

[Does she not remember him trying to exert his godly omnipotence when him and Yukine first met? Little ungrateful bugger simply refused to respect him, and look how that turned out!

His hands get shoved back in his pockets with a grumble about good help as he glances at her. It still looks as though he might cry a little.]

but he is a god. and she's his follower. it's not like she CAN'T show him respect, and she does try, it's just-- ]

Well... [ this isn't the time to be embarrassed now, hiyori. ] You're really cool when you and Yukine-kun are slashing phantoms. I think you're cool when you're helping people, like when you wanted to save Bishamon-san, too. You're cool with all your many talents. How you're an artist. I still remember when you first helped that old man when he was having car troubles. That was cool! It's cool that you can weave your own clothes for Kamuhakari!

[Doesn't mean he won't stop trying to enforce his will!

At least to get a little respect. That's all he wants. Just a little...! So when Hiyori actually goes on about the times he's been cool, he promptly stops and goes quiet, listening to her intently.]

You... You really think I was cool all those times? That doing all that is what made me seem actually... cool? For real?

[You'll have to forgive him for sounds disbelieving; he's so used to everybody taking digs at him for this and that...]

[ don't enforce your will on people, yato. that's bad. inspire them to follow your lead, like he's done with yukine. ]

[ there's a faint color in her cheeks but she smiles at him, reassuring. ]

How you didn't give up on Yukine-kun, too. That was... really, really cool. And how many times you've saved me.

[ it may not seem like it sometimes, but hiyori truly does respect yato.

why else would she make him that mini shrine? why else would she have plans to make another one all over again? ]

[Yeah... It hasn't really worked out for him much, either. Besides, he quite likes this method of getting praise. He does good things and gets rewarded with gratitude and a little bit of money.

Finally, he seems to calm down, smiling again with a blush coloring his cheeks.]

I could never give up on either one of you. Not in a million years. I'll always protect you, and Yukine, I promise.

[He's definitely looking forward to having a shrine again, truth be told. He misses having it near at night, where when he has a nightmare he can just reach out and touch it for reassurance. To remind himself that he's home and loved.]

it's not just that. yato really did have a point about supporting and respecting him. as his temporary guidepost, especially. she'll try and remember that more often.

for his promise, he gets a warm smile. they couldn't give up on him, either. they wanted to protect their delivery god, the yatogami. ]

Maybe we should find a nice hat for Yukine-kun, too. Just in case.

[All's well that ends well!

A little positive attention seems to have soothed the brokenhearted god's pride, leading him to smile in return with a nod of agreement. That's a very good idea. It'd suck if Yukine were to show up without proper clothes for the weather and they had to run around getting stuff for him.]

Yeah, let's do that! We can have fun picking out something he'll like.

Let's get him another one with the puffballs! They look just like he did when you first found him.

[ without really thinking about it, hiyori reaches for and grabs Yato's arm to lead them forward. down the path. to a long day of errands and adventure. of more memories she believes she'll keep if/when she wakes up. she leads them toward banter and laughter. to trying on many hats and many gloves. to undoubtedly spending more than a reasonable amount of time looking for the perfect hat and gloves because yato won't get anything otherwise.

to possibly stumbling upon the perfect potential site for the yatogami's shrine without even trying.

and then finally coming back, spent but accomplished. red-nosed and red-cheeked. hungry.
