Write My Letter, Feel Much Better | Journal Text

Subject: That Wasn't A Joke
Sorry to those that knew Reaper and I were planning to get married soon, we got to talking and ended up eloping rather than having a public ceremony. It's official as of this morning though, as official as it can get in this place anyhow.
We're still going to be throwing an after party at The Wild Harvest, but we figure that will be better done tomorrow so we've got time to cook up food. Whoever shows up is also welcome to bring a dish or two themselves.
[Sorry about that one Tifa- and Eustace, too. Could face crowds for others, but something quieter for them felt more fitting.
Don't... don't mind the itty-bitty kitty paw prints slowly decorating the page, even as 76 wrote. He was currently at the Wild Harvest, sitting in his break room.]
Reason that banner is hung up there at the Wild Harvest- for those of you that noticed it and know what today is. Definitely not a joke. Reaper picked it out.
There will be party favors, by the way.
We're also open today, so feel free to stop by.

Fine, suit yourself.
[He was going to dig his heels in. He was happy with Jack, and that was good enough.]
If you call me buttercup to my face, I will punch you in the jaw.
Yes, yes, I have a list. You can approve it before I get stuck in the kitchen and you can entertain the guests.
no subject
I won't say no if you end up coming across something you want to get. Just don't be surprised when you get some gift in turn.
Marigolds do suit you better.
With enough prep work? You won't be stuck in the kitchen and can loom and lurk about as you please.
no subject
[See what he did there?]
You know I don't do much in the way of material wants anymore. Besides, I figure you're not going to spare me if you see something.
Do. Not. Call. Me. Flower. Names.
[It has been a long time since they spared because of a disagreement, and it felt like a long time since Jack had enough of a subject edge to actually grate on him. Married life!]
I see the words you've typed, but I can stay in the kitchen all night if there are enough people dropping in.]
no subject
[Right back at him-]
I still know your tastes, things you'd enjoy. Not going to be spared at all if I spot something that'll go well in that attic space you'll be getting.
Would you rather something like- Amor de mi vida?
You're also not staying in the kitchen the entire time.
no subject
I'm going to make a ton of clothing for you if you buy me fabric, just so you know. I will not spare you.
Wow. Now using my own native tongue on me? That's cultural appropriation, mi Sol.
[He's 100% joking about the cultural part. He likes speaking his native tongue even if he doesn't do it often.]
You're not my boss.
no subject
Fabric, yarn, thread- whatever you could use. Gotta get something for you to use a decent sewing machine for, right?
[Jack could probably lean back and look out of the cracked open door to see Gabriel at the counter if he wanted to right now.]
Says the man who helped me practice. You gonna keep that one for me?
No, but I am your husband.
no subject
You're tempting me to be a home body, I see. I never thought I would be a house husband.
[He was leaning on the counter with his book out writing away, keenly aware of Jack's position and not being concerned. He used to text Jack while they were in the same room just for the fun of it back in the day.]
You said you wanted to learn; it sounded like a direct order at the time. I haven't decided what pet name I'm going to slap you with.
[He read those words and he turned his head, leaning so he could spy Jack sitting in the kitchen area to check what expression the other man wore.]
So I guess that does make you my boss then.
no subject
Wouldn't be a bad look on you, and there's always our longer hunting trips here and there together.
[Leaning back in his chair just a little—]
Already had some basics, but it's better to actually have conversations to learn better. Worked. You got the time to.
[—and there was that slightly crooked but so very warm smile, it reaching his eyes as Jack kept his journal propped up on a bent knee.]
Just a little bit, huh. Means you've got some pull, too.
no subject
I'm a mercenary. Retirement is supposed to be death, but I can't even get that right. You know I'm not a farmer, right? I can't be in charge of that.
[They'd talked about it, probably even joked about it, but he was a city slicker. Farming was something he could learn, but it wasn't something like how Jack could know it.]
I'll make sure it's a zinger. I put my foot down on flowers though.
[Call him mean things; he likes it better. Just like he enjoyed that warm smile.]
If you say so, boss. That mean I can hide in the kitchen all night?
no subject
And I'm a vigilante, so about the same. Yet here we are, and you'll learn here and there- but you also know I'll let you stay in the house until it's time to deal with pumpkins and the like.
[An easy tease.]
Knowing you? Probably rather I call you something like 'my charming jackass'.
[Smile was still there.]
Nope. You've gotta come out every now and again; means you get to stick by me.
no subject
[He was not staying in a house for months on end.]
That is a long but acceptable pet name.
[He turned in his seat so he could write and observe Jack at the same time. Multi-tasking.]
My version of socializing is insulting people, remember?
no subject
Also ensure we get a good pumpkin harvest when it's time.
Of course you'd call something like that a pet name. Could always shorten it to 'asshole'.
[Getting to observed a relaxed Jack in his not-quite natural habitat.]
Makes it easy for me to tell you like someone at least.
no subject
I want a giant pumpkin. I want a pumpkin so big I can crush a witch under it.
Also acceptable.
[This banter was so typical for them. And he always liked watching Jack, especially from afar.]
For those rare moments I'm not starting something with someone?
no subject
Can get there with me showing you all those ropes, along with a few Morrison special tricks here and there.
Of course.
[One of those moments where Jack was actually letting himself relax, the smile soft yet warm in how it reached his eyes- journal rested against a thigh as he leaned back in his chair there.]
Amongst a few other tells, yeah.
no subject
Morrison special tricks? Should I be worried?
[He was definitely admiring Jack, not even caring if there was awareness that he was spying his husband. They had a party to prepare for, but he liked this even more.]
Don't tell people my dark secrets. I'd hate for them to think I can be tolerant of them.
no subject
Not too much, no.
Your secrets are safe with me, dear. You're the one who gets to decide when people are let in to those- or they figure it out themselves.
no subject
I'm going to be concerned until I see these 'special tricks' of yours.
Letting people in is dangerous. You know that as well as I do. It's better to limit attachments.
no subject
[Listen- Ana had full right to yell at them both if it ever came down to a moment.]
Going to be so disappointed after building up your concern over nothing, too.
Despite everything done to us, we're still human- but I know.
no subject
[Time had allowed him to come to grips with that, though perhaps it was a fact he had always known. He did miss Ana scolding them both though.]
There are very few instances where your special tricks disappoint me.
I don't know what I would do if I lost you. We've already lost... the kids.
no subject
Eh, you might build these farming tricks up a bit much. A few of them are even from Ma.
[Even if Jack did shift a bit where he was sitting, arm rested on a table and chin rested against propped arm and hand--]
Got plenty of reasons to stay here; we've still got this place, and don't forget it isn't just the two of us running it. Percy is still helping, and Ryunosuke still living upstairs and helping himself. Gina comes around, as does Iris. They miss those two as much as we do.
[Might only watch, but he knew their names and faces- and still tried to make sure any that dropped in would always get fed.]
no subject
[Normal young boy stuff honestly. Boys craving adventure and having the time between chores and school to go a little wild.]
I know it isn't. I need to scare the shit out of Ryunosuke again; it feels like it's about time I did that. I only miss one of the two of those idiots.
[Lies. He and Kazuma had never seen eye-to-eye, but their mutual want to make the other uncomfortable was what made him actually like the kid.]
Guess you should considering hiring some extra help if we have a farm to build too.
no subject
Go easy on him, he spooks easy and I think you actually forget just how damn scary you can be to folks that aren't around fighting and- just shit that we are used to.
[Oh, he knew that Gabriel was more saving face given the fact others could read this. Reasons he still played along here and there.]
Really just need a few more hands on deck for tables, and maybe a couple others in the kitchen.
no subject
Oh I know. It was a wonderful Halloween trick I played on him from the shadows. I thought he was going to brown his pants.
[From his room away from Jack, he actually chuckled at the memory.]
So we're hiring then?
no subject
Or give some away.
[Glancing up, some little roll of his eyes—]
Reasons I say to go easier on him. Lawyer or not, he's a good kid himself that still needs to find some solid footing. He misses them as much as we do, too.
[Whether Gabe liked to admit it aloud or not.]
Might have to, yeah.
no subject
[He turned his head and caught the roll of eyes. It made his smile. He rose from his seat and made his way over to door separating them. He leaned on the frame and continued to type.]
You know I like it when they scare, but I won't terrorize him. Maybe just say 'boo' once or twice.
Do you have someone in mind, hmm?
