second entry ⊗ quest #1205 corgi help
Sender: Eustace

Subject: Requesting Personal Stories About Adventures and/or Travels and Other Items in Relation to Dream Board Post #1205
I am in need of numerous stories about any kind of adventure, journey, or travel you may have embarked on be it in this world or your own.
If you've seen my posting on the board, this post is to provide fuller details about the situation. Last month I had been...trapped in a large tree located on the eastern forests, and within this tree are seven dogs which look like corgis. [Have an imprinted image of what the adorable fluffballs look like:]

It all appears to have been pulled in from another world and has remnants of its original magic in place. This magic is a protection spell and prevents the dogs and anything within the tree to leave. Should the dogs somehow manage to leave without it... They will likely die.
Even if it's for their protection, the dogs need and want to go outside. Furthermore, Should something happen to the tree they wouldn't be able to escape. Fortunately, a way to break the original enchantment and cast a new one to protect them as they live in this world has been found. It's simple and requires the following:
None of these are specific so it's whatever can be found, though the better quality, the better chance of succeeding. However, because of the number of dogs, a large amount of each will be needed to ensure they are properly protected. It would be better if there was a better solution, but this will have to do for now.
As for the adventure stories, as mentioned I need a large amount so I would like to ask any willing to share any personal stories they had. There are no specifics, but I get the sense the story should have some spirit of exploration and discovery, which would fit the purpose of the spell. These stories will be transcribed in a journal used for the spell.
Finally, I am looking to create a headstone. The tree and the dogs had a guardian before, however he perished upon leaving the tree. The remains have been buried, but a headstone would be appropriate as well.
If you have any questions, feel free contact me. You can drop off the ingredients at the Fairy Doghouse located within the Residential District. There will be a designated bin for the items. [He draws a brief map with directions. The dogs he refers to are the flower fairy dogs that were brought in a while back.]
Thank you.

this got away from me i'm sorry
She raises a hand to her chin, tapping on it with her finger as she hums thoughtfully. She is certainly not without stories, but she's certainly not as articulate or charismatic as a certain bard friend of hers back home. She spends a moment to think about what Colin would do in this moment, what kind of story he would tell and how he would tell it. At length, she nods, apparently having decided on what to say. ]
Well... Once upon a time, there was a... man? [ Would corgis from another world know what a half-orc was? ] Um. Folks all over came to know him as the "Jade Colossus," for he was mighty, and strong, and brave, and had green skin like a jade, but those who knew him and his home knew that he was the "Verdant Paladin." This peaceful village was deep in the heart of the woods, where the river was most bountiful and full of life, and the Verdant Paladin was its most beloved protector.
But one day, the river and the woods and those who dwelled within started to fall ill, and some disappeared without a trace. The village became abandoned over time, as those who lived there fled elsewhere for safety. But the Verdant Paladin knew that the sickness in the lands was no natural occurrence, but something wrought by evil magic, and so he set out on a journey to find a way to cleanse the lands of this cursed affliction.
On this journey, he came to know of gemstones imbued by a corrupt, evil power, vestiges of a tyrannical wizard of ages past. When he finally returned to his home, he found that it was one of these gemstones which had been responsible for what happened. With the companions he met on his journey, he searched and searched for the source of the corruption, vanquishing evil monsters along the way, and finally found the Corpse Emerald hidden deep within a cave into which the river flowed, in the hands of a horrible frog monster!
[ Ori tries to make the scariest face she can manage, which is to say it's not very scary at all despite her best efforts. All the while, Ori's feelings of nostalgia and fondness for her adventuring companions - the one whom the story is about in particular - have caused tiny green motes of light, like green fireflies, to float all around the room. ]
But the Verdant Paladin defeated this being called a Slaad, and its followers, and saved the villagers who had gone missing. And with the Corpse Emerald gone, the river and the lands began to heal. The Verdant Paladin was able to save and protect his home once again. The end!
LMFAO IT'S FINE
...And tries not to laugh at her rather poor attempt of a scary face, covering his mouth with his hand to hide the slight quirk of his lips and clearing of his throat.
But the corgis are listening!! FROG MONSTER!!! Some of them are lying on their bellies, and one wiggles forward, as if wanting to face such a fearsome foe. And once she finishes, they hop up and bark, butts wiggling in excitement.]
Looks like they liked it.

When Eustace speaks up, though, it's as though she's suddenly reminded that he's there and heard the whole thing, and she gives a bashful little laugh. ]
Oh, I'm glad that they did... I'm sorry it got really long. It was a story about a friend of mine, and I thought it wouldn't do him justice to leave things out.
no subject
It's fine. They would probably complain if it was too short.
Considering this is based off a true story, were you a part of the effort in saving his village?
no subject
[ She wouldn't have been surprised or held it against them if they got distracted by literally anything else through all of that, but she's glad they listened all the way through!
At his question, Ori looks a little bashful. ]
Oh... that's right. I didn't really do anything, though!
[ (Narrator voice: She did.) ]
I just helped them find where the stone was, is all.
no subject
Eustace and the corgis exchange glances before they all just stare at her, clearly not believing and look as if pressuring her to elaborate.]
no subject
...What?
I just cast a spell that helps locate specific objects, is all... My friends did most of the monster-vanquishing and stuff like that!
[ She's a healer, okay. ]
no subject
A spell to locate objects? Wouldn't that be considered a vital part in trying to find the gemstone?
no subject
Oh... well, all it really did was speed up the process. I think we would have found it regardless.
[ Ori might be giving her friends too much credit when it comes to exploration, specifically. ]
Though I guess we could have been searching all over the forest and not in the caves where it was, without it...

Take more pride in your accomplishments. I'm sure should I have heard this story from a different member of your group, they would have emphasizes your role more. It won't take anything away from the main protagonist of your story—if anything it would help give more support to him.
no subject
[ It does take Oriphi a moment to let all of what Eustace has just said process. She does make a habit out of minimizing her— well, everything. His words don't feel unfamiliar, having heard something along the same lines from her own friends time and time again.
Old habits die hard. Ori's learned over time, at least, to accept that she does this rather than continue to insist that she really had nothing to do with anything at all as she might have in the past. ]
That... You're right. I'll try to do that! Maybe if these little ones want to hear about a story about me next time, I can practice that.
[ She gives him a small smile. ]
Thanks, though. You actually sound a lot like my friends when you say things like that.
no subject
I think they're interested in a story now, however they can wait.
What were your friends like?
no subject
They're really strong and competent and really interesting! Everyone has their own things that they're really good at. Like Cibark, the guy who the story was about - he's suuuper tall and strong, but he's also really nice.
We have a few elves in the group, but they're all very different. Dae is a really talented wizard and knows a ton about magic, and Aerie is a ranger, and she's so smart and pretty, and Mellon is really funny and can move his body really fast especially when he's punching and kicking things!
Then there's Sian - they're also really good at magic, but they're also really good at gathering information and that kind of thing, and then there's my friend Colin. He's a bard, and he's really good at telling stories. I bet he would have told Cibark's story even better, and with music. He's really charming.
[ Is she blushing a little bit when she talks about the bard? Maybe! But look, don't get Ori started about her friends. She loves them so much that she could go on forever about them. ]
no subject
They all see that blush.
But fortunately for her Eustace isn't one to tease, he just finds it a little amusing.]
Quite a group you have.
[Like he's one to talk, his own group is rather chaotic in their own way.]
What brought you all together?
no subject
Ah, those gemstones... We were brought together to try and find all of them.
[ There's obviously more to it than that, but... ]
What about you? Have you told our fuzzy friends a story of your own, yet?
no subject
Annnd then she turns the question on him. Should have expected something like that, really.]
Not yet. I haven't really decided what to tell.
no subject
Aww, come on... I'm sure the corgis would love to hear any story you'd want to give them. Right, everyone?
[ She looks around at all the doggos, and then back up at him. Story time!! ]
no subject
...Most of them are highly classified missions that I wouldn't be able to talk about, anyway...
[WELL NOT THAT IT WOULD MATTER TO THE DOGS but with Oriphi... Well technically does that really matter here??? This is totally not him trying to get out of it (it is).]
no subject
[ See this, Eustace? This is the look of utter disappointment. And since the corgis are definitely on her side, they seem similarly let-down. ]
Are you worried that the dogs will tell the other dogs about your highly classified missions?
no subject
No, it's just the principle of the matter... None of them are [Small pause as he has to think of the proper word for this.] ...Suitable for them, anyway.
[...But ugh all those eyes. After another moment of discomfort he sighs.]
All right, what about something from my childhood? It's nothing grand, but it's something I suppose.
no subject
Well, whatever you're comfortable telling everyone. Really, I wouldn't want you to talk about anything that you don't want to share.
no subject
[If somewhat embarrassing, as all childhood stories are.]
When I was younger, I went out off on my own to try and hunt some small game for practice. I liked to wander and explore the forests outside of the village, and my father showed me most of the trails, so I knew my way around fairly well. While I was tracking down an ermine, it led me up a snow embankment... However it wasn't solid and the snow collapsed from my weight. I ended up sliding down the hill for quite a while to an area I was unfamiliar with.
no subject
Oh no! What happened? Where did you end up?
[ She is Invested in the story, and so are the dogs, who are now all watching and waiting with great anticipation. ]
disclaimer: i am making this all up and will retcon if have to lmfao
It was still day out so I could at least see where I was going, but as you can imagine, it was pretty frightening for a ten year old. I didn't tell anyone where I was going and I had no idea where I was, so the fear of being lost and never found was expected. But I remembered what my father taught me. Orient your position, find the nearest familiar landmark, create your own starting marker, and keep moving. It would have been better if I could get to higher grind, but the embankment was too steep and slippery, so I had to try and figure things out where I was.
After noting the position of the sun and marking a nearby tree, I walked in the general direction of the village. However, it wasn't a straight path and I got turned around until at some point I entered a dark area of the woods. And there I heard some rustling and quiet growling.
follow your dreams!!
The corgis perk up when he talks about arriving to a particularly scary section of the woods, and a few take a stance as though they're ready to fight whatever is going to come up with Eustace's story; Ori, meanwhile, leans forward, her eyes full of curiosity. What did he find...! ]
