I was writing up menu ideas for next month and a thought occurred:

Should I list hot dogs under 'sandwiches', and a bowl of cereal under 'soup'?

Back at home, Mamá makes plenty of arepas for people to eat whenever they get hurt. They are these delicious maize patties that can be filled with any filling you want.

Mamá makes the best arepas con queso in town, incorporating special herbs into them, but she also cooks most of the food for our family all the time.

So your Mamá and I would be best friends and your family eats really good. Got it.

But why whenever someone gets hurt? Those arepas sound good and I'd like to eat them right now, healthy and whole.

Well if Mamá is here, she would be happy to share her arepas recipe with you.

Mamá technically acts as a healer for our town through her food: that has been her gift since she was very young. For example, Papá would often get stung by bees by accident, so he is able to get well with just one bite of the arepas.

That's an incredible gift! What I wouldn't give to actually heal the people I love with a meal...

Oh, that's quite the pair! Your parents sound adorable.

Oh why thank you. I am pretty certain that my parents would be blushing in delight upon hearing it from you. Quite a lovely pair of people to be around with.

So you come from a line of mages, then?

Well, we’re sadly not mages in our world, but most of us got our gifts from the miracle that was able to save my family around 50 years ago. Our house helps out in ensuring that the magic stays strong for not just us, but also for the community and the town we live in.

Your house sounds amazing. Perhaps you'll dream of your home sometime! I would dearly love to visit it.

Oh why, thank you very much. Maybe someday if I think hard enough, Casita or a version of it might show up in this world.

I would be happy to share my own home in kind, of course. I always enjoy an exchange of fond memories, tales and culture.

Oh, and food, of course.

Oh, that is really great to hear. I have never been so far from home for my entire life, so I really appreciate exchange bits of cultures from other places.

I know that I don’t know if my cooking would at the same level as that of my Mamá, but hopefully I’ll be able to learn to do it on my own soon.
