okay so i've been here a while now and i've noticed something

i don't know the exact process of how the gods or people or whatever here pick people to help out

i don't know if it's completely random or an intricate process to determine who helps out but lately i've been leaning towards the latter for two reasons

one, i haven't met a single jerk or bully or even rude person here which is legit amazing and awesome BUT

SECOND

IS IT JUST MY IMAGINATION OR IS EVERYONE HERE LIKE INSANELY RIDICIOUSLY GOOD LOOKING

ALL THE ADULTS COULD BE SUPER-MODELS AND ALL THE KIDS COULD BE LIKE THOSE ON HIGH SCHOOL DRAMAS ON TV

i mean this is doing wonders for my own self-confidence regarding my looks but FOR REAL I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE TO NOTICE THIS

PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE ELSE HAS NOTICED THIS

yeah he was definitely saying that but i was kinda being real super duper dumb about it

like thinking of loopholes to avoid the cost and "exact words" and all that stuff

man i was acting like the heroine of a supernatural horror movie before she gets all killed, there's always a twist

There doesn't have to be a twist. Sometimes, magic is just magic. There are plenty of types of magic where the cost is just the stamina of the caster and nothing more.

[ He says this, but he also wants to deter her from the whole dark magic thing. Mostly because Mei is sweet and he's fond of her, so Satan would prefer if she doesn't pursue Alastor's brand of magic. ]

I don't use Alastor's type of magic other than to make pacts. But, you should probably take his word at face value when he tells you the terms of his magic or his deals. That being said, if you're still interested in magic for yourself or for your school, I'm still happy to volunteer my services for free. No strings attached.

[ He's not really sure how to answer. After all, he firmly believes that's why Alastor did what he did. But he's not Alastor and he has no idea what that man is thinking 99% of the time. ]

I think so, yes. I'd given him a good ribbing a while ago about how sweet you'd said he'd been, and I think he took your query as an opportunity to demonstrate why demons shouldn't be trusted so easily. I think if he really wanted to hurt you, he would have done so already. And, given the fact Alastor's magic does come with a steep price, what better way to deter you from pursuing it than by scaring you?

Ultimately, he's what my brother would call a tsundere.

We are demons, though, Mei. We can be dangerous if we choose to be.

I'll show you the basics that will help you with any branch of magic. What have you been able to do with your dreamotion energy so far?

well, it's connected to really intense, strong emotions, right? And we both know what happens I feel intense, strong emotions???

[ hint hint, the panda! Not that she wants it revealed over the journal, hoping he understands... ]

[ He does get it, although he kind of wants to tease her a bit and ask if it means she writes posts like this when she feels intense emotions. ]

That's right, but you can control it. You can feel emotions strongly, but as long as you're not overwhelmed by them, I think you'll be okay.

Take me for example. I'm the Avatar of Wrath. There is a burning anger inside my heart that I feel constantly, but I bet you wouldn't know I feel angry nearly all the time just by looking at me, right?

[ ...He hopes that's the case. He'd be quite upset if she said yep, you look like an angry guy, considering how much work he puts into appearing cool, calm and collected. ]

This place is fundamentally different than your world. Maybe it works the same right now, but I think with enough work, you can make it happen only when you want it or need it to. For the rest of the time, you can use it to use dreamotion energy.

Don't be afraid of your emotions, Mei.

i guess if a literal demon can control the emotion he's in charge of, i can't say i can't

I'm pleased to hear that.

I suggest letting yourself feel your emotions in small doses. No matter how intense they are, just feel them. You'll get used to the feeling eventually, and so the thing that might trigger when you feel big emotions may not trigger after all, because those "big" emotions will feel normal and average to you.

[ He hopes. ]

But, since I'm already aware of it, we can still practice dreamotion together whenever you feel up for it. As long as you feel comfortable doing so. You should be able to use dreamotion energy regardless.

i want to learn how to do it! i want to be able to help everyone! the last times i tried helping out, i got a friend injured or just ran away

i don't want to do either of those things again

I see.

[ She's just a small human girl, so it makes sense that she'd get scared and run away. Not everyone can be brave, or immediately good with magic. Still, it's unfortunate that her attempt to help did result in getting someone hurt -- that can be a deterrent. ]

Something like that might happen again. But, we'll do our best to avoid that, right? If it happens, it happens, but we'll keep working on your dreamotion magic until you can confidently look danger in the face and safely defend yourself if needed. Or run -- sometimes running is the smart choice.

No.

[ He wants to say Alastor doesn't do friends, but he doesn't want to invalidate Alastor' friendship with Mei. That, and he himself often has trouble forging meaningful relationships. ]

I think Alastor would be offended by the very idea.

Perhaps. Although I think it's because we both come from the same place, just different versions of it. I get the impression that he thinks I'm weak, despite my rank as a demon, and that Alastor doesn't make friends with "weak demons."

He doesn't seem to mind making friends with humans, though. Lucky you.
