[Futaba's writing is... something. We'll leave it at that. She's pretty excited though, and she's ready to find others who are just as excited for ✨TECHNOLOGY✨ as she is here.]

Sooooo we all know that this place has no computers or internet or anything which is the actual worst, right? Unless of course you don't know what those ARE, but you will in a moment.

If we're talking computers, I got my laptop back! But with no electricity, I can't really keep it charged unless I kinda use up all my dreamotion energy, which isn't really a great long-term solution. Once we can figure out a better sustainable way to power it, or just figure out electricity, it won't be a problem. (If you wanna see what a computer is in a small package, lemme know. I'll even take it apart for you!) I know there were some crystals or something that gave off dreamotion energy or something that someone found? TELL ME ABOUT THEM, I wanna know how they work!!!

And well, an internet is probably a long way off, but I wouldn't mind having that as a pet project, if other people who know what it is can help me figure it out. I don't really wanna get into the hyper specifics of how it works, doing a whole TED talk on it isn't in the cards right now, but! Imagine being able to find something if we can connect to a network, or even— even some old vintage-style websites! Man, does anyone even make websites like GeoUrbs anymore?

Uh... anyway. So if anyone has some ideas for a good way to change dreamotion into sustainable energy or to figure out how to get it to work like electricity, lemme know because I have a very big itch to play some games but a battery life of like two hours isn't great.

[Look the latest version of Concluding Fantasy isn't going to play itself here, nor is all of her anime going to watch itself.]

[ enjoy is comic sans writing ]

Geeze, I had to do a doubletake at the name. You sounded just like my little brother with all that smartsy stuff. He'd probably be going crazy here without internet though. Or Anime. lol

So you're able to power that stuff with our dreampower junk? I wonder what else that junk can do. Or maybe someone with more strength could charge it better. Oh wait no. This dumb place kinda made us all on similar levels didn't it. huh.

[Too much tech jargon. Didn't read it all.]

Those crystals reacted to any sort of dream energy nearby. I assume they used to act like storage for that energy, but they have long since run out of power when we examined them.

You spoke to me about smart-phones some time ago, right? I'm just as curious about what you call a computer. (Assuming you're talking about your laptop and not someone who does complex calculations for a living.)

As for the battery, I remembered I was attempting to invent a power source that doesn't require charging or winding up like clockwork. I may be able to resume my work on that thanks to the hat maker, so perhaps one day I could test a prototype on your device if you'd let me. What do you say?

Well it is gettin' kinda borin' without the internet or anything at all. So like. Since you're offerin' and all The Great Mammon here will help.

[ With what? He has no idea, he's not the smart brother. ]

Not on it's own, no. We caught a few insects made of dream energy and got a reaction when we set them nearby. Nothing happened though. Just a faint light to indicate they may still be functional.

I suspect they needed a lot more power than what just the two of us could have done.
chippedsoul: (not what I had in mind)

[There is so much happening on the page right now. Between the diagrams and the fast writing. He can at least ignore the diagrams cause none of that makes any sense to him.]

I could show you where I found them. We weren't able to remove them from the appliances they were attached to.

[ Reading Futaba's writing reminds Zelda very strongly of a similar eccentric genius that she knew in her homeworld. The princess considers herself intelligent and capable well-versed in technical jargon, but there's always someone like Purah (or now Futaba) who can leave her feeling like a layman. ]

My apologies, but would you mind elaborating on what a computer and a laptop are? I can gather from context that they are devices which rely on electricity to function, but I am unfamiliar with your vernacular.

[That's a lot of jargon, sure, but fortunately Toge is from the 21st century.]

You're going to recreate the internet out of those dream crystals? Is that even possible?

[His handwriting is slowly but surely improving.]

Fortunate that you managed to at least regain some sort of computer. I imagine my world's technology is far too incompatible with this world for it to properly manifest. Very irritating.

As for the power issue, I'm working on studying the local technology and the crystals powering them to see if it might be possible to adapt them for other purposes. Do you happen to have anything amongst the new pieces of local technology you're unlikely to use?

[ Huh, that sure is some enthusiastic handwriting. It’s a good thing he has experience reading letters, and even so, he has to scan the page again to confirm the topic and familiar words. This is the first he's heard of someone else bringing their device here. Tenn’s response is written quite tidily in contrast. ]

Without the companies themselves here, there would be no way to get updates or expansions.

I wouldn't mind seeing you dissect it, since you seem to know more about it than I do. I can lend you some of my own tools if you come up short.

[ He does carry that toolbelt around with him, but no guarantee they will be the right size tools for this purpose. ]

Of course. As someone who works with electrical wiring on the side, I understand how dangerous such things would be if assembled improperly. [ Speaking from personal experience here... ] I'll let you know when I manage to get it in workable condition.
chippedsoul: (summon me now)

That's all right. The place is located in town anyway. [While convenient, he's fine not being in a cramped UFO, thank you.]

Would you like me to come get you, or can you meet me at this location? [And he'll jot down the location of the run down restaurant. It's definitely not on the outskirts, but it's not in the direct center of town either.]
fishflakes: (Word up)

[personal profile] fishflakes 2021-11-12 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't get me wrong I would love to have the internet back. It's been weird not checking my feeds every morning.

But I wonder if it's a good idea to expose these fine Dreamworld people to Reddit. Don't you think enough chaos is going on right now?

[That's meant to be a joke, mostly.]

Computers, obviously. Faster than light travel, cross-galactic teleportation, technorganic materials, and quite a bit more.

And that would be very handy, particularly if the crystals remained attached to their original devices for full study. I'm trying to understand not just the crystals themselves but how their energy is channeled out of them to the devices they power.
