Hello everyone,

My name is Jude Mathis. I’m writing today to ask for everyone’s input and help in setting up a communal clinic. My hope is that we can create a solid network of medical support and reference material to help the entire community through our time together here, regardless of our personal abilities and circumstances. Songerein is very different from what most of us were used to, adjusting can understandably be difficult. People can still get hurt, however, and there are dangers unique to this world that we still don’t know how to handle. I think we can work on addressing that with a proper clinic established in Reverein, and to that end, I’ve organized the following outline:

CLINIC GOALS
• Provide prompt and adequate medical services to everyone

• Schedule check-up for any health concerns
• Find a healer/doctor for emergency situations
• Contact one for expeditions/combat-oriented Dream Board missions

• Research and develop treatment against Songerein-specific afflictions

• Study and practice of dreamotion for medical applications
• Explore and share alternative methods of health care, including through resources unique to this world

• Discovery and growth of plants with medicinal properties
• Experiment with animal and mineral substances to similar effects

I believe making it communal is the soundest choice, because people can vanish from Songerein just as suddenly as they find themselves here. We can’t guarantee our continued presence in this world, so anything useful we learn or create should be well recorded. That way, the important information and procedures can be referenced by anyone after, even if the person who made the discovery is no longer around.

The general idea laid out, the personnel here so far consists of Dr. Yujin Mikotoba and myself. My focus is on dreamotion and magical healing, Dr. Mikotoba is experienced in traditional methods of diagnosis and treatment. We’d be glad to have volunteers who are willing to help in any way, we’re also open to feedback on how we can better the clinic and its services to better assist everyone. Please contact us if you're interested or have ideas through the journal. For in-person consultation, the building we've settled in is at the north of the plaza by the riverside, between the residential and market districts.

You are setting this up out of the kindness of your heart? Are you not expecting some sort of compensation for services rendered?

Helping people is what doctors do. I know we can't readily prove our medical background and qualifications here to everyone, but we all benefit from a strong community, and organizing this is the best way for us to contribute with our skill set. But if you want to be technical, we do get something important out of people who may come to us for consultation: it will help us gather data, which is especially important for ailments unique to Songerein. Noctaere possession for example isn't something we could've encountered in our home worlds, and we can't research it or look for ways to treat it if we don't have cases to study and learn from.

How someone can become one of those Noctaere? Or possessed by them. I don't know that there's really a difference.

Learning about the process would help us understand it better, but my focus is on how to treat it without physically incapacitating the afflicted. [via having to fight them, that is.]

Setting aside the fact that he's not sure he wants his own parents here... Leaning towards "NO", hm.]

Thank you for your well wishes, miss Susato. We're just starting out and adjusting to the needs of the community will be very important, so we have a lot to learn on our end too. Medical experience also isn't necessary for some of the alternatives we've been discussing; for example, I think it's reasonable to theorize that anyone can learn to heal with dreamotion. It's a very flexible power, once you figure out how to express it for yourself.

[ UNFORTUNATELY she already has a job, one that is less useful but also one she is committed to, and has more experience with. It is a good reminder though, about dreamotion. Someone she respected once said to her, "anything is possible once you can wrap your head around a concept"--in this case, healing dreamotion. ]

Ah, that is a good point. I'm afraid where my father and I are from, that sort of magic is nonexistent, so I hadn't considered it. It has taken all my efforts just to harness fire using dreamotion.

Could you perhaps elaborate? How might one express oneself in order for it to result in healing?

[Everyone's got their own calling! Best to do something you're passionate about above all else, Jude's learned that lesson from home thoroughly enough.]

Dr. Mikotoba did mention it. That you've successfully harnessed fire is all the more amazing and significant a milestone, congratulations!

As for that, I can try to describe what I do, but it may not be very helpful to you. I do come from a world with magic, and use my familiarity with magical healing I used to do as a basis for my healing dreamotion. I've theorized that it largely depends on how you personally feel and visualize healing, having a calm state of mind and a strong volition to help may be a good start. What's your process for using fire dreamotion? Maybe we can extrapolate a means that could work for you from that. Going through motions already familiar to you help a lot, to my experience.

[There are a plethora of uses for having this kind of establishment available and he's not simply thinking it because he knows in his line of work, getting injured is a part of the job. Although that is mainly the source of his appreciation.]

I don't have any medical experience really, except in gathering ingredients for healing salves and what not, but I think there's more than a few of us here that'll make good use of medical care.

[Clinics have already begun popping up here and there around Reverin, with the latest expansion the town has seen as it is ever growing from... supposedly, the dreamotion generated by its inhabitants. Those are run by Songerein natives, however, and aren't as... ambitious as what Jude is hoping to do, that's for sure.]

Gathering ingredients to make medicine is important too, ideally everyone should pack some healing items on them before heading out to the Wildlands. Thank you for your support, would you have suggestions for what more we could maybe do?

Maybe for those who are the more combative types, developing a package for travel and have that available for those who may need it. Not everyone may know what goes into a healing kit. I'd be willing to help with that, too.

Maybe we should put up reminder signs by the main town entrances, after we secure a steady supply and means of production for healing items. The local apothecary already brews healing potions, but their stock may not be enough if everyone starts actively going. We should also account for emergency situations.

That's a good idea. What more would you list, healing potions aside?

The goals you have outlined are admirable ones as well, and the decision to keep research and records in the clinic where they are accessible to anyone is a sound one. I would have liked to offer critique if I felt there was something you had not considered, but it appears you have been quite thorough in your planning.

I would really appreciate constructive feedback, but hearing that from you is a good sign we're taking things in the right direction. Thanks, Zelda. I did have Dr. Mikotoba look over my draft for me, so this was a team effort. You've met him already, right?

I have, yes, as well as his daughter. They are both most kind and friendly individuals.

I was most impressed to find that Dr. Mikotoba has had some good luck growing the Glowing Dawn domestically. That will make it much easier to study, all things considered.

She still takes the time to make the message private, however, and spends a long few moments trying to decide exactly how to approach the subject. Her handwriting is careful, neat and even from her inexperience; she still hasn't used a pen in such a fashion enough to treat the experience casually. ]

What you're doing seems like a very good idea.
Even though this place is much more peaceful than some other worlds, I'm sure people must still get hurt pretty often.

I only know a little bit about plants and I don't have any medical training, but I've been practicing with healing magic for a while now.
It's been hard on my own, so I can't say that I'm very good at it, but I'd like to learn to do better.
If you're looking for volunteers, I'd be willing to try to help you at the clinic.

Thank you for your encouraging words. Practice makes perfect, as they say, and healing can be trickier to practice by yourself. [Like most things when you're only self-learning on your own honestly, the lack of targets don't help, but that may be generalizing a bit.]

Your help would definitely be appreciated. Whether it's through magic from your own world or with dreamotion here, I think I can help you learn, or at least give you a second opinion of what you've been doing and other methods you could try. Of course. We've all got to look after each other, and this must be one of the best ways to do it.
And you're right. I'm glad that people aren't hurt around me very often, but there's only so much that I can do when that's the case.

The magic I've been using is a bit of both, I think.
I was trying to learn it in the last world I visited, and when I came here I had to change the way that I thought about it in order to combine it with dreamotion.

[ Without enough experience to really compare the two in their natural forms, it might be hard to say how much of each one it is. ]

But if you have any advice for me, I'm certain that it would be helpful.

If it's a traditional one, easily. Accidental burns incurred through everyday chores like cooking are quite common, and quick to treat.

[Keyword IF, and there's a reason he included 'traditional'.]

I've got a buddy, let's call him... Alvin. [He has no clue that particular name is significant to Jude.] He's got a penchant for setting himself on fire. A lot. It's part of his fighting style, and it's powerful as heck. We've got a friend who can take care of all his burns with healing artes no problem! Her healing is crazy strong!

But... I'm worried about what'll happen if she's not able to heal him back up one of these days.
