[He's still getting the hang of this journal stuff, though admittedly the thought of it reminds him of older times and the legible feelings belonging to his wife in her final days. Nier's writing isn't particularly great. Not quite chicken scratch, but not impressive by any means.]

Not really sure how this works. Guess you just write stuff down.

I haven't been here long. Still getting to know the area. The people.

Name's Nier. I know there's another Nier here. I'm older than him, so call me 'Old Man,' or whatever. We aren't the same.

I did jobs for the people back home and I'm planning to keep myself busy. If you have something that needs doing, I'm your man.

I'm not offering for the reward. The reward doesn't matter to me. I just need something to keep myself busy. I don't like just sitting around. Don't like it when I'm awake. Don't like it when I'm asleep.

I suppose I could do with an escort. There's something reeeeeeeally important I need to do at the caves, and with all the stories about monsters recently, I could do with not getting jumped on the way.

Nothing nefarious. The caves lead up to somewhere with a whole bunch of the monsters I mentioned earlier. Long story short, I was here before. When I went back to where I'm from, something I put up there vanished... and it's a whole lot more dangerous here now with it gone. So, I'm going to put it back.

[Yes, it's kind of like bolting a stable door after a horse has already ran. But- providing the types that enjoy fighting clear out the monsters in due course, there may be significantly less in future.
