A question, if I may... Does anyone look out to a formal settlement and find it altogether too dazzling at times? Or, mayhap even too much to trust that it is on offer with nearly no strings attached?

Ah, understood. It is as you say, not the fairest conditions to insist upon it.

But I admit I may be stubborn enough to attempt an outdoor camp even in the cold, if I was confident it would not lead to later issues. Have you been in this strange world for long?

but i just lived by the river for a while and people didnt really complain until it got cold and they were worried about me

If I may be so bold ... You would have sought shelter if it became unsafe to you, I hope? Even if others did not alert you to their worries?

The girl in this case referred to part of a broader outdoors in a settlement called "Peacegarden," I assure you!

"Peacegarden" sounds like it must be a lovely place. I can imagine the allure of sleeping outside in a place like that.

Nay, I should have been more specific... It is a proper settlement, and the space the girl - or girls, rather - the space offered was a proper commune.

It is merely against my ... upbringing, I suppose, to accept such a space so easily. Thus the reason for my inquiry... I am unsure how to dispel concerns.

Yet I am told this mistrust of homes, and instead choosing outdoors or abandoned storerooms, is concerning behavior. There is no pleasing everyone, is there?

I could say "both" and leave it there, but that is hardly a satisfactory answer.

The truth is, being granted a place in a community formally was never meant to be for me, regardless of the one offering it. To forget that, 'tis as I said: all a work in progress. And passing strange, at that.

A large city can be quite formidable if you've known naught but a small settlement your entire life.

It is as you say, although it is not only this city. Some of the buildings themselves are... quite large enough to feel trapped, very much like I may never be able to find my way out.

I am unsure that I will ever understand the apparent luxury of some settlements. Or shelters. A forest floor or a warehouse suits fine.

Aye, I was raised in a small village... 'twas quite a shock when I first laid eyes on the large city-state of Ishgard on my star during my twelfth summer.

Though I must admit, I've grown used to the comforts found in the large city-states I've come across during my travels.

Comforts such as...? Pray forgive me, but my visit to Ishgard following its rejoining with the Alliance was ... shamefully eventful.

Mayhap I need to give it yet more time to see more of such places? Was it a difficult acclimation for you?

It can be... That is why some were chosen to do so, in order to guard those within the village boundaries. You become familiar with it, and reversing course is to sleep within walls and beneath offered roofing is... strange. Difficult, even.

But, there is sense in what you say. We are all strangers to this land ... If I may ask, what of you, and your adjustment here?

Regardless -- I think that you're brave to try to do so much for others here like that...

Oh, me? ... I guess I've been really lucky so far. Up until waking up here... I've always been able to spend most of my nights with my family. Unless I was able to have a sleep over at a friend's house, anyway.

To me, not at all. It was expected for someone of my position to do so almost exclusively.

The root of the issue seems to be that others do not like the idea and find it worrying. I believe I have caused offense in the past by declining an offer to stay overnight in a special guest suite?
